So, we kept AK, now what?

Post#1 » by jazzfan1971 » Fri Feb 25, 2011 5:13 pm

I was 90% certain we'd move AK to get under the lux tax. I'm not sure if we'll have another opportunity to get under before the tax is calculated or not. If we still have another opportunity then I still think it'll happen. But, if not, we decided to keep AK.

I assume this means we'll make a run at him this offseason.

Now a lot of folks think he'll give the Jazz a home town discount. And that is looking a bit better now with Deron and Sloan gone. Maybe Corbin is a guy that can get more out of AK. Coddle him a bit more.

So, with all those assumptions in place, what do we offer AK, and what will he be offered elsewhere, and where will he end up for how much?

And of course there is a potential lockout or new CBA to be aware of.

Or do we just let AK walk at the end of the year and go younger?

What do Jazz fans predict as teh future of AK47?

The Jazz got 3 million from Nets to help in luxury tax issue. I hope we re-sign him but he is really best suited as a back up SF/PF. Hayward likely starts next year with CJ at SG.

I think he ends up here. The guy and his family love it here. His wife has a business here and AK has said multiple times that he would prefer to play here until he is done or ready to go back to Russia.

When is it that what players say is finally acknowledged to have absolutely no bearing in what they do? How many years of different professional sports will it take before we realize what they say is garbage?

Now that Williams is gone I'd love for AK to stay for three or four more years.

I'll say he gets teh same offer Matthews got. Exactly the same.

I'd take him right around the MLE...AK's the kinda guy I'd like to see retire here, but with the lockout I could definitely see him goin and playing back hoome for a while.

I could see a team like the Spurs who realize AK's defensive value and could utilize it making a nice offer for him. But I dont see AK getting more than $45 million from anyone, which bodes well for us because IF he is serious about keeping his family here then I agree with JF1971 and see him worthy of Wesley Matthews money....

I would also offer him a front loaded contract so he isnt a bloated salary problem later.

Sign him long term at the mid-level. He is going to be a huge part of this team going forward and I bet we end up getting him for cheap for what he gives us on the court for the next few seasons. It will help make up for all the last money/time from the last 4 seasons.

Ak is probably the best player on the team now, which is a role that suits him best IMO. I'd love to see old 5x5 comeback. There sholud definitely be mor opportunities doe him to touch the ball and and I think with our improved speed we're likely going to see ak with the opportunity to roam on defense once again.

The problem with that is that we weren't exactly winning rings when AK was the best player we had.

If AK was as good as he can be, hed have fit in, rather than reverted when we picked up other players.

It's not like we were winning any rings with Deron either...

I'll take Deron as my best player over AK as my best player.

Go ahead and argue with that if you'd like.

right now, i'de put ak 3rd after jefferson and millsap. and harris certainly can be in the top 2 or 3 on the team.

i hope it will be: big al, ak harris, then millsap by season's end.

(next year, i hope for favors and hayward to be mixing it up and competing for starters minutes too)

He never said he will stay here but that he prefers to stay here. He didn't make any promises and of course if someone threw a really high contract in his face he would be gone.

let him go. Seriously, I wouldn't re-sign him for ANY amount. I'm tired of the constant teasing. One minute he's an all-star and the next, he's a ghost. He is physically unable to play more than 10 games without going down with an injury, and his minutes need to go to the younger developing guys. I wish him no ill will, but I'm ready to move on from Andrei.

I think AK is a career Jazz man, but we'll see. If any offseason is a test it will be this one when teams like LA, San Antonio, New York and Boston offer him the MLE.

I think AK will get a pretty good deal elsewhere. The question is if he wants to remain in Utah for less.
