Did Deron do enough to warrant...

Post#1 » by DiscoLives4ever » Fri Feb 25, 2011 6:21 pm

...his number being retired eventually? Obviously emotions are a bit raw right now, but he was the face of the franchise for half a decade and statistically a great player. I don't really have a strong opinion one way or another, but I overheard some people talking about it earlier and thought I'd pose the question to the board.

He's easily one of the most talented players the Jazz have ever had but I think his legacy is too tarnished (deserved or not) to have his number retired for a long while. He might get it after a long delay like Dantley.

Not even close, in my personal opinion, and I don't think that stems from the fact that I don't like him. He just didn't do enough (e.g. win a title or go to the Finals) or spend enough time here (e.g. Jeff Hornacek's 7 years) to justify it.

No, not even by Utah's rather reduced standards for jersey retirement.

Reduced? We're not the team that retired a player's number who never even played here.

In my IMO only Malone, Stockton, Dantley and probably Eaton deserve to have their number retired... so I don't think Deron deserve it.

I can guarantee no one will ever wear 47 besides AK.

I'm suprised that Sloan let him pick it. Its unique and set him apart. Wasn't that against the rules?

I would only unretire 1 and 9 if given a choice. I mean, they both were great and saved the franchise but there are other options for honoring them. Larry could use a statue, Frank, I dunno, a memorial conference room?

rodman was wearing 96 before ak wore 47. 47 is a unique number, but picking unique numbers was not unique when he picked it.

It was unique to the land of no rubberbands, head bands, or dunking on people.

and deron wont get his number retired in utah. i think only ak is in line for that. jefferson, millsap, are next in line pending their performances over the next decade. unless cj somehow wakes up and turns into kobe bryant.

The next closest is Memo. He needs a revitalization though and he doesn't look like he's going to be involved much in the new front court.

When is his contract up? And also Favors needs minutes to develop. Would it be best to let Memo walk after he expires? I don't think we'd get much out of an injured vet.
