Millsap or Jefferson?

Just wanted to take a glimpse into the future.

If Derrick Favors develops into the players that most people hope that he will be, the Utah Jazz are going to have a bit of a logjam on the front court. Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson are currently the starters.

Will one of them go? Will Millsap accept a bench role again?

Well if we can trade Millsap for a SG on a great contract, then him. What's the use of having Millsap if Favors is our future PF? Atleast Jefferson can play the center position, and if tonight was any indication, damn well with Harris.

Its really simple just look at LA they have three big guys and they have killed us 3 years in a row and even go back to the Spurs in the WCF who beat us with their front line... Fans you cant trade Al Jefferson he is way to good to just say ship him out.... You've seen how Paul is shut down against the taller players I would love to see him play the 3 if we have two 6'"11 players who can clean the glass and protect the rim why not let him play the SF and let CJ play the 2 with Hayward as the backup at 2 and 3... You dont give up height people!

Why can't we keep all 3?

Millsap will be our Odom. Jefferson will be our Gasol. Favors will be our Bynum without the injuries.

Whats the use you ask? You have to have a bench look at Dallas look at LA with Odom look at Boston. We still have to factor in Memo maybe coming back down the road too to take up Elson min.

Ty needs to sit Raja and let CJ start I dont care if he is in a slump he avg. 20 ppg when he started those 3 games and he is a better rebounder too.

All 3 compliment each other. Millsap has shooting range and ability to drive to the basket. Jefferson has the post game. Favors has defensive quickness and athleticism.

Definitely keep all 3 and have a dynamite front court for the future :D .

I definitely agree. I don't get why some people think Millsap & Jefferson are the same type of players. They're not the same at all. Millsap plays more like a perimeter PF than a natural PF, he gets the ball at the high-post most of the time. Jefferson plays mostly inside/around the lowpost.

They are starting to click now, certainly dispelling what I thought early in the season (and maybe that was premature).

Nice sig.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Obviously the ideal situation would be for Jefferson and Favors to start one day and have Millsap destroy every other 2nd unit power forward in the league coming off the bench.

But someone will overpay for Millsap and the Jazz will let him go. Book it.

Are you talking about overpaying him in 4 years? I don't think its something we should worry about right now..

We can combine a few of the ideas here.

First, if you can move Millsap for a great 2 or 3 in a trade, you have to do it now.
Second, we have an elite front line with Millsap coming off the bench (until we move him).

This also means you can't move Millsap unless your shooting guard or small forward can offer the team something more valuable than an absolutely bruising front line. I'd want a closer that could be a solid second option to Jefferson (Al as a first option is great: post moves win playoff games).
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

Best post of the thread. This is right. If you can move Millsap for a good scoring wing, then you do it, because its such a glaring need, but otherwise you move forward with what is potentially the best front line in the game. My main concern is in a couple of years, because I can see Paul being willing to go back to the bench role once Favors develops.

We don't have to trade Milsap. We re-sign Kirlinko and Watson. We draft a shooting guard and we package Bell/Miles for another one!
Remember, we might have Okur back next year healthy!

Jefferson Okur
Milsap FAvors
Kirlinko Haywood Evans
Rookie shooting Guard Traded for shooting guard
Harris Watson #2 pick 2011
