I cant wait for a lockout.

Does it bother anybody that the Heat just singed Bibby? Or the celts just picked up a good player. The rich just keeps getting richer. Lets say the Jazz were still in contention, we would still not pick up a player of this caliber.

If the Lockout does not do something to help out small market teams, I may be done with watching the NBA, (if i can)

I think with all your might you will not be able to miss one single Match. This players need to stop cheat though. No fair advantage fo team as jazz.

It's business, why should there be assistance to small markets? If your marketing strategy is weak, you suffer, like in any business, so tough luck.

It bothers me that Riley is cheating once again.

I agree. That said, you need to look at each individual team as a subsidiary of a larger company, the NBA. It will be interesting to see how the NBA approaches the bargaining. Will they work for more paridy, in order to generate nation/world wide interest on a broader level, or do they feel that major markets will be able to generate greater revenue by ensuring they are almost always in the hunt for a championship.

I don't think a lockout is the ideal situation though.

I feel like for the long term health of the league there needs to be parody among all the teams. It just doesn't make sense to dump all your eggs into one basket in this situation. It's not like the small market teams don't make the league good money.

I love a good parody as much as the next guy, but most of these guys have a really thin skin when it comes to being roasted.

That could burn a small team just as much as a big team. It would cause unprecedented player movement.

Yep. A hard cap will likely mean more situations like the one in Miami, not fewer.

the current system is really messed up that's for sure! With the league taking over the hornets that could easily happen to other markets if the NBA doesn't fix things.

The current system is a bit of a mess, but I don't think a hard cap is the solution. The Jazz's roster would've looked much worse over the past 8 years if there had been a hard cap.

I love how people bash the government when they bail out businesses, but now people want small market teams to get bail outs from the NBA. A salary cap is already assistance to small market teams, if not the Knicks could have a 200 million dollar payroll, similar to what the Yankees are doing. You might think I'm crazy, but all they have to do is double the price on tickets, cause they would absolutely sell out every damn game, and keep in mind that the Knicks were paying well over $100M a few years ago if you consider the luxury tax. A hard tax would hurt us, cause no one is going to take a paycut for a small market team.

One thing that will never be fixed is endorsement money. Nike and others like them want the players they pay in big markets, Just a fact of life.
I just want to see a system that is fair across the board. I would love to see more teams making the playoffs, more teams being able to make a run at the title. PARITY would be a dream come true.

No way. How would it be more?
LA had the biggest payroll last year and won the championship. I doubt they could fill a roster and pay kobe, odom, gasol, and artest without having the ability to go over the cap

Which would be good in my opinion. You'd definitely pay for it when you sign a bad contract.

Note that I said there would be more situations like the one in Miami, not like the one in L.A.

Players will take less money in salary to go play with their friends in a big-city environment where:

A) There's no income|sales|hooker tax

or

B) They can make a lot of money off endorsements

or

C) There are lots of off-the-court 'distractions'

or

D) all of the above

The main counter-incentive that a player's current team has under the current CBA is that they can offer longer contracts and more money per year than anyone else. This is the so-called Larry Bird exception. Without it teams like the Jazz will essentially turn into farm clubs for the bigger market teams.

I disagree. The pay cuts the guys in miami took were minor. I believe miami is still over the cap are they not especially with the guys they just picked up? You still have to pay another 8+ guys after your stars. If the hard cap only allowed you to realistically pay 1-2 guys the max and fill your roster, I think it would keep teams like NY, LA, Boston etc from just basically ignoring the cap. Boston and LA are well over the cap and are the most recent teams that have won championships/been in the finals.

There may be an example here or there where a guy takes a pay cut like Malone did to go chase a ring, but if a team has to adhere to a hard cap and can only offer pennies on the dollar, I don't think you'd see too many super teams winning much as they couldn't afford any role players to go with their stars.

Hey guys what if we had a GM who could put a good team on the floor I mean if we are going to have a top 6 payroll shouldn't we have a top 6 team?

You sit there and get mad for these teams picking up all these players but its our owns GM damn fault for over spending and doing such a bad job why we cant claim a player or even sign one

Miami was like the 6th lowest payroll this year

That's by necessity. You get to be way over the cap by re-signing guys, doling out the MLE every year, etc. Since Miami had basically no one under contract, once they hit the cap, they had nothing at their disposal but one MLE contract and a bunch of veteran minimum deals.
