Another question about the Deron trade..

Now that we're a week past the trade, I'm thinking that the general consensus is that the Jazz hit a home-run with the deal. Favors and Harris both look very solid, and Deron's injury helps our chances all the more.

My question is - what would have been the minimal acceptable return for Deron in this deal? In other words, if the Nets had only offered Harris and Favors with no picks, would we have said yes? Or what
about just Harris, Favors and the GSW pick?

What would have been the least you would have accepted from NJ for Deron?

That's easy, the least I would have accepted is nothing, because I wouldn't have traded Deron. I don't think it's a consensus we hit a home run. I don't like giving up on a player on a whim instead of surrounding him with talent and winning.

At least we have the lottery to look forward to for the next few years -- personally I would rather have the playoffs to look forward to...

I think that the general consensus among Jazz fans is that we "won" the trade. I don't think that opinion is shared elsewhere. The general consensus from (unbiased) national media is New Jersey got the best part of the deal, similar to New York with Melo.

That doesn't mean things may not change pending future events, but seems to be the opinion outside of Jazzland.

Personally I would have liked to see us get Lopez. I don't think I would have accepted less than we got. Harris and the cash are the only known quantities at this point.

Normally I would agree, but Cleveland, Denver, and Toronto sway my opinion. This is a great deal for the Jazz.

The national media find it hard to believe Deron was traded, but they all think he will be elsewhere after next year. Seriously, if Deron leaves NJ has nothing. Absolutely nothing to build with. Actually with Deron there the only thing they have is cap room. Dwight Howard is not walking through that door.

Perhaps in time it will be. But for the moment, a 2nd tier PG, a project bigman. and some draft pics that we can't forsee the result of for one of the top 5 in the world point guards isn't a "home run"

I was hoping you would keep the chain of childish retorts going. Oh well. Regardless, I'm not sure you know what "consensus" means. Your one vote does not make or break a "majority of opinion." So, yeah, I'd love a diagram, actually.

Most of the Jazz fans I know, on here and elsewhere, believe it was a very good trade given the circumstances. Deron was gone. Adios. Out the door. We got good pieces back, instead of losing him for nothing. Home run.

I'm enjoying games more now than I did before the trade. The product we had on the floor the last 2 months prior to the trade was putrid. Even in wins it was uninspiring basketball.

Now I enjoy watching them again, even in that loss to Boston I was entertained. I think if I had paid to go see that game I would have felt i got my money. (and the refs got theres somewhere) I can't say that for many home games lately.

If we didn't get the picks, we could of waited for the summer and made a trade for Kyrie Irving. Here are a few scenarios..

Cleveland: Irving + 2012 First Round pick
Minnesota: Irving + Wesley Johnson
Toronto: Irving + DeRozan

Ofcourse there would a ton of other players involved to match salaries, but that would be the main players coming in. Honestly though, I don't think it could of worked out better, in the best case scenario, we get a franchise PF in Favors, the 2012 #1 (Irving), and the 2012 #8, not to mention Harris runs the offense GREAT, what he doesn't give us in scoring, we can get from other guys.

I agree also, I haven't been this interested in Jazz basketball in a very long time.

I definitely think we "won" the trade, but that's based on the fact that I believe Deron bolts from NJ in a year and a half and they are left with absolutely nothing but a nice stadium, and whatever lottery pick they get next season.

Even though Al has been playing well lately, I'm not sure we ever have the best player on our team heading into any game anymore.
