Offseason SG & SF Pursuit

In order I would pursue:
SG: Nick Young, Aaron Afflalo, Andre Iguadala
SF: Granger, Battier, AK
Pieces used: I would be willing to part with the right mixture of any of the following to land any of these prospects: Memo, Evans, CJ, Bell, GSW pick, NJ pick if 6-7 etc.
For example: If we could land Granger for the NJ pick and Memo, I would do it.
How to secure any of these players:
N. Young: throw a wicked contract at the guy and hope they don't match...maybe include the GSW pick to give the incentive not to match.
A Afflalo throw a contract at him, after hopefully somebody does the same with JR Smith and then hope that they decide to keep JR Smith. Maybe offer Memo straight up in a sign and trade. I think they would take Memo.
Iggy: I think at the end of the year Philly will look to shed money and would take Memo & CJ straight up for him....maybe we include our late lottery pick to secure him if needed. Iggy would be great here if Jazz management can take on the contract. He is a stud defender and strong offensively.
Granger: It may take the NJ pick, CJ and Memo.
Battier: Good contract and sales job.
Ak: Fair contract.
Why Battier over AK: I love AK, and the signing of Battier would essentially end Ak's run. But AK isn't a leader and this young team needs a leader, and unfortunately Bell hasn't provided what I expected he would. Battier would ad a toughness to our team that we currently lack.
We need a SG who can shoot the 3, and score. Someone young and relatively established: Young, Afflalo, and Iggy all fit the bill. I would prefer the first two because I think with the new CBA they will be on better contracts.

I think I would amend the choice to put Afflalo over Young. He is a little bit better shooter and would also hurt a division opponent. I also sense he has a little more of a stronger pedigree. He came from UCLA's winning teams and was a leader there. He was also part of the post Piston Championship teams that were still strong, and he has spent a lot of time with the consummate pro...Chancey Billups and has really learned the game from him, Joe Dumars, Rip Hamilton etc. I think there is also a little more risk in Young who is doing this all on a weak team and only this one year.

I like your list. Iguodala is my favorite.

I don't see why any team would take Memo or CJ. They are just taking on money for nothing. CJ is a has-been who never-was. And Memo has missed nearly an entire year due to injury, AND is owed 10+million. Would you trade a guy who puts up 14-6-6 at $12 million, for a guy who puts up 12-3-2 at $14 million? Cuz Memo has shown nothing to encourage other teams to think he'll ever play again. So you are basically paying $14 million for CJ Miles crap play.
That being said, I would love to land Aaron Afflalo, but I don't think there is any chance in hell that Denver retains JR Smith over Afflalo.

- Stop drafting Almonds over Afflalos and Koufoses over Ibakas...
- Talent does not do it all, but wihout talent you're not going far...
- Look for kind of lost dudes like Nick Calathes (he will be playing the last year of his contract with a greek team... I suppose Wolves still holds his rights...)
- Learn you have to quickly sign or swallow the pill and match dudes like Matthews when you find them...
- Be patient, because this thing will take time...

If we wanted to move foward with Favors and deal Milsap then i know we could get Iggy. The jazz need to try to make a big move like that. We have picks and some youth and we already know that half the league wants Milsap.

Favors and Hayward are the only hope for this team. They need to both start next year. Jefferson should stay and start because he has played well offensively and ok defensively and bc no team will trade for him bc of his contract. So we have to trade Millsap unless you make him a 6th man to which he would probably be very unhappy.
Millsap for a SG like Iggy.
Draft best players available with the 2 picks.
Next years lineup
PG Harris Watson
SG Iggy Miles Bell (if u cant get rid of him)
C Jefferson Memo Elson (Fess is gone)
PF Favors Evans Elson
SF Hayward Miles
(Add into the above rotation best available 2 top draft picks and hopefully Tomic) If we draft well then this team could be the next Oklahoma City young team in a couple of years.

It crossed my mind that next draft and summer are the right times to try to get the so much needed quality wing in return for Millsap; you can certainly argue it's a right move to consider.
It's just the idea shocks me as a fan because the guy's the quintessential blue collar player... he actually bettered himself even AFTER he gets the money... these dudes are not easy to find anymore... and his mid range shooting is hard to be replaced (even if his D has been constantly overrated)...

I floated the idea of Millsap for Iguodala on the 76ers team page. They like him, but they want a center. Plus, Iguodala's defense and consistency makes him a favorite that is hard to trade for.
I suppose management can get past those good feelings for Iggy in order to get good value in a trade, but it looks like they really just need a center. Millsap, even with his awesome contract, isn't going to do much for their rotation along side Brand (who they are stuck with).
But, this draft has projected a bunch of bigs between the 2 to 6 pick. So maybe we could move Millsap and NJ's pick (Enes Kanter) for Iguodala. I'm not sure on the rules, but Miles seems to have value because of the team options on his contract. Could we include him in the trade so that salaries match, and then see Philly not pick up their team option? Either way, it would mean taking on extra salary for Utah, but I'd feel confident in our guards. Harris and Iggy would make a great backcourt, and it would stop Harris from trying to score like Williams and instead focus more on efficiency and defense.
If we picked up Iguodala though, we'd have a hard time filling out the rest of the roster. I think we'd need the MLE to get backup point guards (Watson and Price are free agents), and backup centers (Elson and Fes are free agents). That would mean we probably couldn't make any kind of offer to Kirilenko, which makes me sad.
I guess we could still offer Fes if they want to resign him for a backup 5. Oh, and we could offer the rights to Tomic, too. That might at least give them something at the right spot.
EDIT: After thinking it over, we actually do have some other center prospects we could include. We could draft Enes Kanter with the 6th pick, and Donatas Motiejunas with the 12th pick. Those are all real centers (of varying qualities) that could help make this happen.
-Fesenko
-Tomic
-Moteijunas
-Kanter
Not a bad set of prospects.

I could live with trading Milsap if we got somebody like Iggy back. Milsap will have a shorter career as I think his body will break down from always playing against bigger players. It would be tuff to swallow.

I believe we will just end up rebuilding from the draft and make a few small signing with the MLE.
I would love to draft Harrison Barnes with the NJ pick. I would love to pick Alec Burks (SG from Colorado) with our pick. The kid is a great athlete that is a decent shooter.
We could sign Shane Battier and resign Watson to back up PG. Also I would try to sign Tomic to a deal but if we can't just resign Fes or Elson
Our 2011-2012 lineup
PG- Harris, Watson
SG- Hayward, Burks, Bell
SF- Battier, Barnes
PF- Millsap, Favors
C- Jefferson, Memo, Tomic
I would love for Favors to start but I think we will end up starting the year after next.
GO JAZZ!!!

I don't think we should mess around with our frontcourt at all.

Afflalo, absolutely. Though I think it would be tough to pull off considering the Nuggets have a lot of cap space and thus can match the Jazz's offer. The Jazz can't front load the contract too due to their own cap situation.
I'm thinking of Rip Hamilton plus pick/s for Memo and CJ/Raja. Detroit gets their hands off of Rip's contract and receives an expiring, Utah gets to continue to build through the draft. Maybe "unfair" to Memo, though, since he's busting his arse to get back on the court to help the team.

Moving Millsap before Favors is more developed would be a mistake. The Jazz should stick with Millsap until he is rendered obsolete by the young fella. The Jazz would be better served by being patient with their frontcourt situation, not anxious or desperate.
There is no need to trade for a guy like Iggy at this point, and I don't think he's really a fit for the Jazz. The Jazz need wings that can shoot, and Iggy's more of a scorer. Big Al is a great scorer. Millsap compliments him from midrange, and the rookie compliments him with defense and length... you surround a frontcourt like that with shooters, not scorers.
I think Afflalo would be a great fit.

I wouldnt mind parting with one of our 3 power forwards to get a shooting guard who can actually shoot.

I'd rather pry Ben gordon from Detriot. I don't think anyone is going to take Hamilton on with his contract, age, and disposition.

That would be hard, imo. Ben still has value for the Pistons and they won't be interested in anyone in the Jazz roster (other than Favors, perhaps). Hamilton, on the other hand, is in the dog house which puts Detroit in the shorter end of the negotiations. If Detroit throws in a pick with him, I believe some team will take him.

I'm not sure there's a lot of guys itching for Hamilton because of his recent antics. I did crack up when, despite how much he loathes Detroit now, he told the Cavs he wouldn't play for them and also wouldn't accept a buy-out.
