I wonder how many Jimmer would drop on the Jazz

Jimmer Fredette just scored 52 points while we were busy giving up 122 to the crappy T-Wolves. So anybody care to revise their statement that he is not top 10 draft worthy? Someone who can shoot the way he does, 22-37, 7-14 3's, and only ONE free throw, will find his way onto someone's roster........
With our luck, O'Connor will change his "draft the underdog whiteboy" philosophy right when he could finally get it right!

We would have to get a coach that let the players run since we wouldn't get any defense out of Jimmer.

Jimmer needs to go to Suns and get bloated stats before people find out he is just the next Steve Kerr. A good 2nd round pick that goes in round 1. A good long career as a back up guard.

I'm no fan of BYU, but I'm a huge Jimmer fan. Utah needs a guy who can shoot from 3 point land consistently. I'll take a guy who's frequently dropping +40 night games.

At this point I'd gladly take the next Steve Kerr.

I have two words:
Jaycee Carroll

Okay I guess I have more. Jaycee has better career stats (college career) than Jimmer and he was undrafted and went to spain. I'm sick of this hype. It's crap.
And for those of you who will say "oh Jimmer dropped x amount on these guys, well guess what, Jaycee dropped 44 on these guys:

We need a good 2 guard that has height! If we use the Nets pick on Jimmer I'll puke.

Definitely don't want Jimmer with the Nets pick.
Utah's pick might be right where Jimmer deserves to be drafted, though.

College Basketball is not the same as the NBA, this guy is undersized, slow, can't defend anyone and he is a shooting guard in a point guard's body. At best he can bring some scoring off the bench for someone.

If we took Jimmer with the nets pick, I would care quite a bit less about this team, as it would be blatantly obvious they either (1) only care about making a profit / getting to the playoffs, not being a championship team or (2) self-evidently (Please Use More Appropriate Word).
Not because Jimmer won't be alright, but because he doesn't fill a need and has a low upside. We need to take chances on NBA caliber athleticism, not the best all around player (IE koufos taken right before Ibaka).
I would tune in to watch our white back court ball it up, but we'll also get torched.

I haven't watched a lot of Jimmer, but many of his buckets against New Mexico last night strike me as the kind he won't be able to get off against NBA defenders. He seemed to shoot over or around his man a lot, and I just don't see him having the size to do that in the NBA. I could be wrong.

He is defintiely going to struggle to create shots for himself in the NBA. There us a reason guts his size with his speed aren't all over the league, and it's because they struggle to get shots off against bigger players who are much faster. Jimmer is going to be relegated to a spit up shooter in the league, and IMO, spot up shooters who lack size shouldn't be lotto picks.

The major difference is the quality of opponent.
Utah State didn't even sniff the top 25 in 07-08. They got one vote from the AP poll, one week that entire season and then lost in the NIT. BYU is a top 10 team this year with a very strong strength of schedule. Fredette is doing it against much better defenders and he's getting his team to incomparably different heights.
Any comparison of stats has to take that into account to be taken seriously, otherwise it's just abuse of numbers. How often do we discount NBA players for putting up numbers as part of a losing team, or against a bad defense? And that's when it happens in the same league, these two may as well be playing on different continents. We can throw out star calls, he had
one free throw and he was finishing through contact. In the biggest games of the year, Fredette has poured in huge scoring totals to force close wins, and that is what makes numbers meaningful in basketball. Your argument from stats comparison is weak.
I'll listen to arguments from size and body type, though. This will be a challenge for Fredette in the NBA. However, this isn't the biggest question mark. He's handled good defenders (e.g., Dairese Gary, DJ Gay), and been the focus of good defenses (e.g., Utah State, New Mexico, SDSU). Right now he's making it look easy: he's clearly hard to guard, which is why he gets the shots he gets.
In my mind, the biggest worry is about his role. He's effective with the ball in his hands taking lots of shots in iso and off of high picks, which is going to be hard to get from an NBA team off the bat. But it's going to take survival skills to stay in the NBA (probably for the length of his rookie contract). His game looks nothing like JJ Redick's (Fredete is more than a shooter), but he should pay attention to how Redick has managed to survive to his next payday. If he can get over that hump, I think he's got a real chance to make a difference in the NBA.

I second that. I would love to draft Jimmer with a 12-15 type pick. But I dont think he'll be on the board. Jimmer will get taken by a team looking to have an instant punch off the bench, and Jimmer will give you that. And in a league where most players dont play defense most nights anyway, Jimmer will fit right in.

Well when you are constantly double and triple teamed, even if it is against WAC and MWC opponents, and you can score like that.....some team will draft you, and probably pretty high.
Also, your post reflects what they said about Steph Curry, and he was a steal for Golden State IMO. Some guys are just ballers. Jimmer is a baller. I'm not saying he will go on to be a great player in the league....I can't see the future. But lotto teams should look long and hard at a guy who can bring the ball up the court and just let it fly from 30 feet like its nothing and people are actually surprised when the shot doesn't fall.......

As far as BYU schedule goes. Haven't most of the teams that BYU played this year been unranked losing teams?
