More Inuries No Playoffs

Post#1 » by retiredcoach » Mon Mar 14, 2011 7:03 pm

Well, with Bell's latest toe sprain and Hayward's forefoot sprain, the Jazz have about zero chance of making the playoffs, so despite Corbin's best intentions, I think this one is over.

The Jazz don't know if Hayward broke the bone in his foot or just sprained it. Hayward's injury is a very painful one that impacts jumping and pushing off more than running. I expect he's going to down for awhile. Even if it's only a sprain, it can keep someone from playing for a long while. If the bone's fractured, it's an eight week healing process if he doesn't re-injure it by trying to practice or get back too soon.

Supposedly, he's still a game-time decision (Hayward) from what I hear. Raja too.

I hope you're right.

If it were a midfoot cuboid bone displacement which sometimes feels like a forefoot problem, Hayward would probably be able to play but it would hurt. With a true forefoot sprain or fracture, unless it's a really mild sprain, I don't see how he could play. If it's a true forefoot sprain he's out for several games. If it's a fracture, it will be 8 weeks. Typically for normal or serious forefoot sprains or fracture, they boot them. If Hayward shows up in a boot don't expect to see him playing any time soon.

If Bell's little toe is a sprain, he might try to play, but it's going to hurt a lot. Little toe fractures are often diagnosed as sprains until the pain doesn't go away.

Hopefully it's not a forefoot issue. We need him to help make sure the rest of the season's at least watchable, and also productive from a player development perspective.

The Jazz gave up on Borchardt too soon. His foot healed and he has played good basketball in the 7 years since. He's a lot better than Fes.

Your point is? Griffin plays for the Clippers, one of the worst teams in the NBA. If the Jazz have a chance to pick up Griffin, I guess they should pass on him given the Clippers record.

On a another topic. Hayward's foot injury looks less serious than first thought. He injured in the Chicago game, but didn't say anything until after Corbin took him out. Not a good move. They didn't find a stress fracture but his pain level is high--not a good sign on a forefoot injury. He practiced a little today. He should sit out another couple of games, but he may try to play. Not smart.
