Anyone else want to see Al Jefferson traded?

Post#1 » by Ugly0598 » Fri Apr 8, 2011 5:29 am

So everyone is getting at the point that we are building for the future, and I know a few people are thinking that this is an overreaction thread after tonight's game, but here's the point, is Al Jefferson REALLY a piece to build around? He is 6'10", he DOES have a great post game, but lately he has been dominated by taller players, because he is forced to play center, his defense is atrocious, but because he does block the ball pretty well, and Boozer was here last year, it's an improvement.

I just don't see what Al Jefferson has to offer us for our future, we know his peak, and his peak hasn't won games in Minnesota, some of his great games here in Utah were when we were getting blown out, and his numbers were down a good bit with Deron Williams here, so I'm not buying into Big Al anymore.

The Jazz need to build the model that the Bulls with MJ, and now Lakers have done, that's a dominant and tall front court, and a great SG (or wing player), and great defensive schemes. Big Al does NOT fit that model to me at all. Guys like Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors are players that I think can fit the model of a championship, and if we somehow bought Paul Millsap into an idea of being a 6th Man, while drafting a tall center in the draft, why don't we trade Big Al for a decent offer? Don't get me wrong, I think Big Al is a good competitor, but it's for the best of the organization. Teams need to look at why teams win championships, the model of the 90's Bulls, 2000's Lakers are perfect examples, obviously a lot of pieces have to come together.

Just some food for thought, sorry for the wall of text.

I was thinking of Bogut too, but I think we get too much of a steal there. Keep in mind Delfino is a decent player too. Anyone know if how good Delfino's D is, I don't watch him or the Bucks much at all.

Would love Bogut. Don't think the Jazz would be willing to give up what it would take to get him, though. And that package wouldn't do it.

Not sure if it's possible, but maybe we could pick-up CJ's option and then trade him, like a sign and trade, but with CJ being an expirer, it could help the Bucks, or throw in a future pick.

But yeah, if Bogut could ever get a full season of good health, then he could be a great asset for us. Imagine would we could be like on defense if we had Bogut, Favors, Hayward as our starters, those are all really good defenders from what I see.

I guess it could help that Bogut went to the U of U. :D

Leave big AL alone. It was just his first year, he played in every game and has improved over the course of the year. His D isn't as bad as advertised and he has improved his passing. A front court with Big Al and Favors will be just killer next year. It's Millsap that has to either move to the SF or the bench.

If the Jazz get a good offer I wouldn't have a problem with trading him but I wouldn't be shopping him around.

I think if the Jazz decide to trade any of the bigs, Sap will be the one to go....especially if like the OP suggests they want to have a "big" frontline...I personally wouldn't trade any of them. I wouldn't mind them looking into a trade of Harris for a Mayo/Gordon type of SG. Basicly one that has good range and could play off the ball and guard pgs allowing Hayward to run the offense

Im ok if he stays but im also ok if traded for the right deal such as Kaman or Bogut. He had little value in the trade market last year and might have only little more value now. So he is probably staying and he will do his job, and he will NOT be the determining factor whether we make the playoffs or not next year. The development of Hayward and Favors determine how good we will be next year along with a better coaching job by Corbin.

Al, Sap, and Favors need to stay.
We need to add depth to back them up. Hopefully Memo comes back healthy and can contribute.
Bring Tomic over.
Al, Sap, Favors, Memo, Fess, Tomic....... Nice. Gives Corbin something to work with.

when we had a chance at the playoffs Big Al was beasting. Now that is gone, I think he is having a tough time staying motivated. He will be back to himself next season.

+1. He does exactly what he needs to do, and looks much better when he is paired with Favors rather than Millsap. Honestly, if there were anyone I would shop in a trade it would be Paul. To me a Millsap+Miles+pick for Granger deal seems mutually beneficial.

There are very few centers in the NBA that are better than Al Jefferson.

We also have a bit of money next year due to a slew of expiring contracts. No need to get rid of one of our #1 guys.

The only two people I don't wanna see next season are CJ and Raja.

Thing is though, Al Jefferson isn't really a true center, he's a tall PF, and people seem to really want Favors and Millsap to stick around.

I would definitely consider a CJ + Millsap for Granger trade, but Danny has had a disappointing year with the Pacers.

Obviously I think Al is a really solid player, and I dont' think we need to immediately trade him unless we can get a good deal out of him. But just MY opinion is that his style of play and him playing center for us isn't going to win a title.

Oh, we could win a title with him, the thing is we'd need a wing who puts up 25+ppg on decent percentages to make it happen. We can't ride Jefferson to a title. But, he could certainly support such an effort.

I see it a lot like Pau Gasol. In Mempis as the #1 option Pau was pretty useless. Considered the softest player in the league by many. Put him next to Kobe and suddenly he's the best PF in the game. He didn't get any younger or better. His game didn't change. But, his role did. He didn't have to be THE GUY in LA he could just be a talented role player and let Kobe lift the team.

That's Al Jefferson to me. He needs to be a role player. But, until we get that Kobe or MJ or Wade or some such he's going to be more like Memphis Gasol than LA GAsol.

Could we trade him? Well, I guess. But, his value isn't that terrific at the moment. I think we ought to give him another year in Utah to evaluate him/raise his stock before we do anything. Unless of course some deal falls in our lap too good to pass on.

Right now I think we just need to focus on learning how to win with Al. A lot of that will be on Corbin, the rest on Al.

I like Jefferson. I really, honestly think that he's let the stress get to him in a pretty negative way and it's affecting his play big time.

I would like to give him another year, he deserves it. I don't think the idea of trading him is ridiculous or far fetched at all, but he has too much potential to give up on before we really know how good he's going to be with some stability.

I'm in the "we need a wing shooter-scorer" bandwagon... and I think I've been on it for a long time now.
- To AK, CJ, Bell, Price, Fesenko, Elson... I wish you the best, but Jazz need to go another direction now.
- To Memo: I really loved your game man, but if KOC find a way to trade you...
