If one were to redo the draft right now based on future potential, maturity to be a star (Cousins), and performance, it might look something like this:
Wall
Favors
Cousins
Monroe
Hayward
Ed Davis
Laundry Fields
Then you look at the second round and the only two players that have made any kind of contribution have been Fields and Jeremy Evans at pick #55 FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Now I know a lot of factors (like the Jazz sucking) play into this, but that is still pretty amazing. I believe if Jeremy Evans works on his outside shot, he might actually have a shot at becoming a Jr. AK, and could stick in this league.
Now, sometimes players outperform ones' expectations, and some players underperform expectations. Its just nice to be on the good end of that for once. I can't give KOC 100% credit because if at #9 last year he had the choice between Evan Turner, Wesley Johnson, and Hayward would he have still chosen Hayward? No. But, it is great to see that his plan to pick the best player available at #9, was right on, and thats what he did at #55 too.
And for that, I give him a ton of credit.

Re: Give KOC A LOT OF CREDIT
Here's how I would re-order those guys:
Wall
Monroe
Cousins*
Favors
Davis
Fields
Hayward
* I still think some teams would stay away from Cousins no matter what -- and they could be right in the long run.

Fields has had the better year overall than Gordon, but Gordon is much more athletic and because upside I think he gets the nod. Monroe over Favors on Potential again if off. I agree with some of your order if you are talking about what they put up this year, but then you would have to put Cousins number 2.

You could also make a case for Patrick Patterson in the mix in the Fields/Hayward area.

I love Patrick Patterson. I think he's gonna be a baller in this league.

I agree. Looking forward to seeing him develop.

Sure. I'll give KOC all the credit for the current state of our team.

Personally, I love DWill, he was my favorite player for the last 4 years, but if you think he was staying in Utah, you are outright crazy. I'm really glad he got Favors for him as he would probably be the #1 pick in the draft this year, and adding Harris on top (who is a good value for his contract) makes that trade really good.
The potential of Hayward and Favors adds up to a lot more than 1 more year of DWill with a bad wrist, and I give KOC a lot of credit for getting something out of what was going to be nothing.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Re: Give KOC A LOT OF CREDIT
Let's watch what happens in the draft, and what happens to the hornets next year to get an accurate view of how koc did. So far, I'd say he's set himself up for a home run, and with a good couple of drafts it may be a grand slam. Favors has legit franchise potential, something very few players have, I say if we can get ag least one more starter, and a 6th man type in the draft koc will have unquestionably made the right move. I also think favors is a Utah type of guy, he's not a bright lights, big city, attention hungry star, he's more of a kill on the court, stay quiet off it kind of guy which is ideal for small franchise teams. Duncan and Stockton type of guys.

Fields really did disappoint when Carmelo was on the Knicks though.

Re: Give KOC A LOT OF CREDIT
Fields had a terrible April really, his fg% fell dramatically, his points were the lowest for any month of the season, as was his rebounding. Hayward averaged basically 16/3/3 with 58%/57%. Insane.

Re: Give KOC A LOT OF CREDIT
Hayward is more talented and has more potential but Fields had the better overall rookie year so I'll call it a wash for now. Also, Fields plays in a system that will inflate his states and it helped playing alongside of bigs who don't know what a rebound is unless it hits them in the face.
I still won't be surprised to see Cousins out of the league in the next couple seasons with off court issues, I just don't trust him to keep a level head through a whole NBA career. Who knows though....maybe he is this generations Zach Randolph.
I agree about Patterson, I was one of the guys really pulling for him when the Jazz pick came up. I think he is a great fit down and Houston and will end up being a solid player for years to come.
We still need another year or two at the very least to make a list of where all these guys are/will end up. Rookie year production doesn't mean jack if they don't back it up in the next two seasons.
