So who do we want @ 12? I nominate....

....Chris Singleton.

Dude is the exact type of player that the Jazz never seem to get, because we're too busy trying to draft a shooter or a PG or wtfever. He's athletic, long, wide, quick and this year started to hit the spot up jumper. He could be the rare breed of perimeter defensive monster who doubles as a floor spacer on offensive. Think Shane Battier with more athleticism, but not nearly as cerebral.

The Jazz need to do something to encourage the culture and mind-set that creates good defensive squads. Getting guys like this is a big part of doing that. I think in the right system for the right team he can turn into an absolute monster. He's the type of guy that could be All-Defense but still score over 10ppg in an efficient manner. And scouts think he can guard 4 positions.

He's slotted to go to us in Ford's latest mock. Here's his profile on DX (rated 20th):
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Chr ... eton-1342/

Here's his profile on ESPN (10th):
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft/re ... -singleton

And on draft.net (18th):
http://www.nbadraft.net/players/chris-singleton

Note: on nbadraft.net's player page, where they do the 1-10 rankings of a prospects skills, they are notoriously stingy with a perfect "10" rating. They have Chris's defense as a 10.

I'd be down with this pick. The kid shot 36.8% from three. If he can do that in the NBA and play elite defense then he'll play a long time in the league.

yes indeed, this is the exact guy i want even if derrick falls to us at 3. But I highly doubt we draft 2 sf's. But i'd be for it.

I package whatever I have to, to move this pick and move up to take Knight with whoever will move back for us. I am willing to trade next years GSW's pick, Bell, and CJ to accomplish this. I don't think it will take all of this, but this should be enough to move up with Washington or someone like that. I am hoping for either Williams or Kanter at #3, and want to make sure we get our future PG with Knight.

If we can't trade up for Knight and we take Williams or Kanter with #3, I take Klay Thompson the best SG prospect who can shoot in the draft. I like Jimmer but would never draft a slow 6'2' SG. I would much rather have player who isn't a liability on one end of the floor.

I like Klay Thompson @#12 as well. Not the athlete some folks we could draft, but, seems to be a good fit for our system.

I just hope he's better than Pavlovic.

Alec Burks or Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard is going to be gone.

If we get Burks, Thompson, Singleton, or the outside chance we get DoMo I'd be thrilled.

1 Irving
2 Williams
3 Knight
4 Kanter
5 Vesely
6 Leonard
7 Walker
8 Valanciunas
9 Biyombo
10 Thompson
11 Morris
12 Singleton
13 Burks
14 Hamilton

Ford's latest mock.

If Singleton, Burks, and Motiejunas were all on the board who would you take?

To me it would be Burks by a landslide just because he has so much potential. I am concerned that he wouldn't be the greatest fit, but he has a knack as a slashing wing, so the potential to be successful is there. Motiejunas would be a close second, again, because of potential. Then lastly Singleton, I'd rather see us trade to get New York/Phoenix or Indiana's first if he was their target.

I've been high on Singleton for a long time, and he would be my pick over anyone if we land Kanter. Every team which endeavors to contend needs a true defensive stopper on the wing, and Singleton has proven he has the attitude and ability to provide that presence. Offensively, If he develops a really solid baseline 3, he will stretch the floor perfectly for our post presence as well as Harris penetrating and Haywards triple threat game. He is an outstanding athlete with tremendous length as well, providing a solid finisher on the break.

If we take Williams I think we have to look at moving Millsap, so maybe Singleton would still work. Valanciunas could still be on the board, and Burks and Jackson should get a look as well.

For such an allegedly poor draft, there is a wealth of talent available to teams picking 5-15.

I'd agree with your last sentence, but I think that we are lacking scoring so much on the wings that at 12 if Burks is there we absolutely have to take him.

Burks - I love his size, and the potential he has as a slasher/athletic wing. I don't like that he's such a poor shooter right now which would make it very hard to play him next to Harris who isn't much of a shooter obviously. Having a second ball handler of his quality in the line up would be nice now. Someone who can create from the perimeter, and pass like he can would obviously have hits perks.

Thompson - I have been trying to figure out a good comparison and it just came to me. He has Kevin Martin written all over him. Great shooter, fast release, excellent size, can put the ball on the floor, hits off balance shots, big time scorer out of a small school that has kept him out of the spotlight. I would love to end up with him.

Singleton - The idea of getting an elite wing defender to put next to Hayward and Favors could give us a cornerstone to build our team around for the next 5 years. Truly elite wing defenders are hard to find, and with a guy like Kevin Durant running around our division for the next few years, I'd love to have a guy who can frustrate him in our future postseason match ups.

Motiejunas - I think he has the highest potential in the draft, and has at times already shown that he's worthy of a top 5 pick. He is an insane offensive player, and a top notch passer, with a decent low post game and the ability to spread the floor. If you think having Kanter would create a log jam, imagine adding DoMo to the mix.

If it were up to me, this would be my draft order at 12.

1. Thompson
2. DoMo
3. Burks
4. Singleton

Great comparison for Klay Thompson. Unfortunantly the reason he ended up at a small school was because of character issues - after risking it on Kirk Snyder and Robert Whaley I doubt the motivation to draft him will really be there.

As for Motiejunas, I am in complete agreement with you, absolutely the highest potential, but he also has a lot of risk. But at 12 would you really complain?

As for Burks, I really think that a year with Horny working on his jumper would help him a ton. It doesn't look too bad, he just relies too much on "slingshotting" rather than using his legs and extending his arm through the ball. He also tends to kick out his legs, so shooting in situations where he has less pressure should bump those percentages up a lot. I'd expect him to shoot between 32 and 35% from 3 next year and between 35 and 37% for his career.

Singleton I have pretty much covered - great value with a later pick, I just don't like him at 12.

Since when has Wazzou been a small school? It's a Pac-10 team that typically is a top 5 team in the conference with good character guys.

I guess I should say the reason he's not at a "power house" because of character issues. Whether or not he's straightened out, I don't know, but if the Jazz organization has any reason to doubt him, he won't be drafted by us.

All I've heard is that he was caught with a little weed. I wouldnt' throw him under the bus for that. Do you have something else that concerns you? Maybe something you could link?

It doesn't really concern me too awful much, but I think that unless he interviews great that little incident could be enough to not get drafted by the Jazz (but I think he is a perfect fit for our system). I would be very happy if we did select him, though.

Ford writes that he's being considered at 5, and I think he offers tremendous value at 12. Perhaps you are discounting the difference which can be made by players who have the capability of slowing down the leagues best scorers, particularly during the playoffs.

Fit is another factor in his favor when projecting his impact with the Jazz. Assuming we retain Jefferson or add Kanter, our inside presence on O is outstanding, and Hayward will be our triple threat on the wing. I like the quickness and end to end speed Harris offers, I just wish his jumper were more reliable. Burks would seem to duplicate many of Harris' strengths and weaknesses, while not filling any of the most pressing needs of the team. Thompson is a good shooter, but probably not much better than Hayward, and is not as developed as a playmaker. Nor does he possess close to Singleton's ability to effect a game defensively.

Conversely, in addition to his defense, Singleton brings length and athleticism to our perimeter offense, will rebound very well for his position, and if he can be counted on as a reliable spot up threat, our wing offensive attack becomes incredibly solid. As a unit, the Jazz will be diversified offensively and seriously bolstered defensively. For all these reasons, I believe Singleton is the player more likely to help the Jazz congeal into a contending team.

That being said, I'm willing to bet he'll be gone before we pick.
