Mark Jackson screws the Jazz...again.
Per the wiretap: http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/21 ... Head_Coach
You all realize, of course, that this means we will NEVER get that GSW first rounder now. Jackson is going to be terrible, and his Warriors will be worse. The protection on those picks is higher than Warriors record is likely to get them under Jackson. KOC better trade that pick ASAP.

I think you underestimate how terrible some other teams will be next year.

Re: Mark Jackson screws the Jazz...again.
Well, they were 11th this year, I can see mj having them drop 3-4 spots and getting the jazz the 7 pick.
We do need to be weary of them tanking though, if they are sitting around 7/8 worst towards the end of the season they definitely try to reclaim the pick.
We also always have the opportunity of a team jumping them in the lotto.
Can't wait to start the warriors season watch thread, that will be three years running for us watching other teams. This one will be a nice though, we can actually root for them to win a little bit as opposed to the last two years.

Re: Mark Jackson screws the Jazz...again.
The 8th worst team won 32 games last year, the warriors won 36, any chance the warriors don't lose more than 4 additional games next year?
Does ekpe udoh save the jazz?

If this trade rumor becomes reality, I think it will help the GSW win more:
Monta Ellis for Andre Iguodala

Probably one of the most idiotic hires I've seen in a long time...
Can say goodbye to that pick.

If that means more of Reggie Miller's commentary, its a double whammy.
Jackson might be a decent coach, though. Strong basketball knowledge, and I doubt he takes much s*** from difficult personalities-- being one himself. I had assumed the Warriors would be tanking next season after 30 games anyway.
My prediction is the Jazz have no first round picks next year.

Re: Mark Jackson screws the Jazz...again.
The list of teams that have finished 7th or worse for THREE consecutive years is a pretty damn short one. I'm drawing a bit of a blank in my head as to the last time it happened. The Hawks picked 6th in 04, 2nd in 05, 5th in 06 and 3rd in 07. So that was probably the last time, but they were a team that was in complete and utter disarray, who were bombing on high lottery picks every year. They took Josh Childress over Iggy, Deng and Biedrins in 04, Marvin over CP3 and DWill in 05 and Shelden freaking Williams over Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay in 06 before nailing the pick of Horford in 07, signing Joe Johnson and lucking out with the (relative) maturation of Josh Smith into a high quality player.
The Warriors have a young star in Stephen Curry (although that Ekpe Udoh pick last year was a head scratcher), another quality player, though maybe not a winning one, in Monta Ellis, and a nice big man in David Lee. They'll get another lottery pick this year and have already been a decent team recently. I can't see them bottoming out enough to finish bottom 7 this year and bottom 6 in each of the next two. They are actually about the perfect team to deliver us the best pick that the protection will allow. They are good enough that they likely will not stink it up terribly, but the mix of players they have will almost certainly not let them make the playoffs. So we'll get a lottery pick out of them. Like it was noted above, though, the thing we have to worry about is if they are riding that line around the 7th-8th pick at the end of the year and they begin tanking to keep the pick. The good news now, though, is that West and Jackson are both the types of guys that would never stand for something like that. So that's encouraging.

Agree 100% erudite. Teams usually tend to grow, and the Warriors really just assembled their team last off season. Hopefully there is some growth from them between Udoh, Lee, and their chemistry with Ellis and Curry.

Re: Mark Jackson screws the Jazz...again.
Yeah, I'm not going to despair just yet. The Warriors have enough talent that they shouldn't fall too far, if it all. I hate Jackson's overused, obnoxious catch phrases as much as the next guy, but, who knows, maybe he can coach. He wasn't successful as a player because of his physical tools (not by a long shot), but (largely) because of his understanding of the game and his leadership skills (although his sabotage attempt while he was here probably skews Jazz fans' perceptions of his leadership skills). Maybe those traits translate to coaching.
Also, I think the Warriors would improve if the rumored Ellis/Iguodala swap happened (though ESPN rumors are, far more often than not, nothing more than rumors).

LOL, who did you think they would get, Phil Jackson?

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Re: Mark Jackson screws the Jazz...again.
It sounds like their owner is dedicated to winning and is really dishing out some cash to surround MJ with good coaches.
Hopefully that helps, and hopefully the pressure from the owner to win games overshadows the desire to tank towards the end of the season.

Also, lets not forget where they are right now. Picking 11th. One spot behind us. They would have to get significantly worse to end up in the bottom 8.

Re: Mark Jackson screws the Jazz...again.
Jackson expects the Warriors to be a playoff team next year. Lets just hope they remain where they are and don't fall off. If they do get Iguodala, maybe they will be better. I think they will be. Hope the trade happens.

First-time coach Mark Jackson has a bold prediction for his first season with the Golden State Warriors.
"I fully expect, put it in bold letters, the Golden State Warriors to be a playoff team next year," Jackson said Tuesday, a day after being hired by the team that has been to the playoffs only once since 1994. "If I did not expect that, I would not have taken the job, and I won’t minimize it with just being a playoff team. We are looking to turn the Bay Area upside down."
Jackson’s comments came before Game 4 of the NBA finals, which is working as a lead analyst for ESPN and ABC. He will begin his first coaching job full time after the end of the series between the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat.

Don't be frontin', Mark.

If we do setup a Warriors pick tracking thread, can we call it "Mama there goes that man?"
