Jazz-Blazers trade idea

Post#1 » by HolyToledo » Fri Jun 17, 2011 3:56 pm

I know these teams hate each other. But it seems that Portland wants a new PG and have excess SG. Why not them make a trade if it benefits both of them.

Wes Matthews to Jazz for Harris...you could even add filler players with Andre Miller to the Jazz and Memo and 12th pick to Blazers.

Matthews fits so well with the Jazz and Harris is liked by Blazers. Sounds like KOC not too excited by Harris' inability to see the floor ala Stockton and Dwill.

How many times do we have to go over this? The Jazz had their shot at keeping Matthews at the money he's making and they DECLINED.

Jazz have admitted it was a mistake not matching their offer. The Jazz now have Harris whom blazers like and supposedly need. Harris really looked bad to me in a Jazz uniform and didnt seem too excited about being here.

Trade makes sense for both teams and only thing that makes me think it wont happen is because the Jazz front office has to be a little ticked of at the Blazers for the Millsap and Matthews offer sheets done by the Blazers.

source...I can remember during the season that KOC in an interview admitted as so and he said you have to make your decisions and live with them. He said it was a tough decision at the time.

source? you want me to look up stuff...I thought it was common knowledge!!

Unless the Blazers just fired their GM again and gave you the job that doesn't make a difference. I expect most Jazz fans would do this deal. Why would Portland?

Portland tried to trade for Harris during the trade deadline and now is rumored to want a new PG. They clearly like Matthews but have Roy as well as other SGs. If you sweeten the deal by adding the 12th or the GSW pick then they clearly do it. Jazz lineup:

PG Knight Watson Price
SG Matthews Miles
C Jefferson Memo Fess Elson
PF Favors Millsap Evans
SF Hayward Millsap

I like the above team but Knights development would be the key. Watson would probably be starter at beggining of season.

With Portland trying to force Brandon Roy into retirement there is no way you are getting Mathews from them. Just let him go.

Been discussed, this is a trade that the Blazers wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. I think that they'd just offer Expiring (Miller?)+ Fernandez+ 21 and call it a day.

The Jazz didn't match the offer for Matthews because they had just gotten Jefferson and that would put them alot deeper in the luxury tax (which they try their hardest not to do). They also weren't sure if matthews was worth the contract the blazers gave him (well very few if anybody was).

Now that we know he is, if this trade was on the table I would do it in a heartbeat although I hate the possiblity of healthy the blazers in anyway.

Ya. This saves money for the Jazz since Matthews makes 5.7 - 7.2 over the next five years. Harris makes around 9 million. So the Jazz might do it. I'm not sure Portland would do it unless they really love Favors or could get someone to take Andre Miller off their hands. Would the 12 or next year's pick be that appealing to them? I'm not sure.

Would the blazers consider in your opinions: Harris, Bell and the 12
for
Miller, Matthews and the 21.

If I was a Jazz FO man I would do it, and I would at least call Portland to gauge their interest in something like this. Not sure that call lasts long though. Although I can see why both teams might consider it at least.

The fact that this rumor was all over the place of few weeks ago probably means that they did talk a little about it. But i just dont see either team being able to see eye to eye. Both teams would probably feel like they are doing the other team a favor and would want to come out on top of this trade so the Jazz would ask for matthews or batum and the blazers would counter with miller or fernadez.

If neither Matthews or batum is in the conversation then there is no deal, even then who knows. I dont think the Jazz are that desperate to rid themselves of Harris.

As was said this went hashed a while ago on this board and then also discussed on the Blazers board. They had no interest in moving Matthews for Harris--unless it was going to be a bigger trade in which the Jazz send over Favors or other young players and picks.

Blazzers love Wes no way they trade him and now that the contract is a good contract since it was front loaded!

Even with Harris having a down year or two recently, I doubt Mathews in his best year can equal be equal to the level of produciton as a player of all around utility that Harris is in a bad year.
Mathews is a better defensive player,
Harris is a better offensive player,
Harris is also a pg who can play starter pg,
even if Harris never gets a full understanding of how to play pg, his job is more difficult than sitting behind the three point line waiting for a pass and playing defense.
If all you want from Harris is to sit behind the three point line and snipe I'm sure he could gear down his game to that point for that specific job.
No way I trade away the only pg on the team, even if I'm the only one who values Harris this much, no way this trade can be justified if it leaves the jazz without a pg.

I won't trade Harris at this moment, until he have time to prove himself!

Oh... my... gawd. When will this ever stop? The lockout almost sounds appealing just so that this stuff can finally come to an end.

Keep in mind that the cap hit for signing bonuses is spread out evenly across the length of the contract.
