Biyombo or Bust for me

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Sun Jun 19, 2011 5:10 am

My dream draft is Derrick Williams at #3, and Biyombo at #12. 2nd to that would be Knight/Biyombo.

But what I have started to be open to is swapping the likely BPA at #3 (Kanter in my opinion), with Washington who loves him. I believe they would give up their first round pick next year for him. Perhaps it has top 3 protection, perhaps only #1 protection, perhaps its protected top #3, but if it ends up #2 or #3 overall they have the right to swap for one of our other picks, and we of course get their #6 pick this year and perhaps even their #18 and #35.

I love the idea of picking up assets for next years chance to draft H. Barnes.

Of course I am aware that by waiting to #6 we may lose out on Knight, because Toronto might take him. And frankly I am okay with that because what worries me more about this draft than anything is Biyombo not slipping to #12. I really think that regardless of his bad workout in Europe last week that Detroit will take him at 8. I have listened to interview after interview with scouts and draft experts and the smart money is on this kid becoming a star in this league.... and frankly, in a lackluster draft I am willing to swing for the fences on a player who is exactly what the Jazz need long term.

What I am saying is that if Knight is gone, and perhaps even if he isn't we should still take Biyombo at #6. If Knight were there, that mean that Toronto took Kemba or Vesely, and that Sacramento would definately take Knight at 7, but that would also allow Jimmer to slide to us if we like him. I am not a huge Jimmer fan, but if we got Biyombo I wouldn't care.

Perhaps I am off on this, but he is the only uniquely special player in this draft besides Irving. I think D Williams will be good, and Kanter could be special and that is why I think we pick up extra assets by trading him.

Frankly though if we get some assets for the future, and Biyombo I don't care who we take at #12:

Singleton, Burks, K Thompson, Jimmer, Hamilton, Brooks etc.

Thoughts? Especially about Washington's willingness to give up assets to move up. I think they would prefer to give up a pick than McGee. That kid is a beast who is about to blow up.

When I watched Biyombo get the triple double against America's best young ballers I too thought he might be the best player long term. If he's really 18. Or even under 20. If he's 24 like some think my opinion changes.

I too have thought about trading down with Washington for 6 & 18. That was when Singleton might have been there at 18 and Jimmer likely at 12. Now those two appear to have worked out well and moved up the charts. I was thinking Biyombo, Jimmer, and Singleton at 6, 12, 18.

Now I would probably take Jimmer at 6 and hope Biyombo or Singleton is available at 12. If both were available, I would take Biyombo if he's under 20 years old. Donatas M. appears to be sliding in the draft, so I would hope he would be there at 18.

Biyombo was not invited to the Green Room. Kind of interesting. I wonder if his invitation is pending?

I'm also warming up to the trade down for Biyombo not a bad idea considering what Cleveland and Minnesota does.. Kanter makes me nervous and if we bring back watson (*if*) then is knight going to sit as our #3 pg?

We need "D" and shooting. Ah this draft cannot come soon enough! (and then lockout.)

The Jazz don't need more young players this year, so if Washington gave us anything more than their unprotected pick next year and the #6 this year, I would flip it for more assets.

I would send the #18 to Chicago for their Charlotte pick that is eventually unprotected in 2016, and perhaps cash and their #28 pick. Then I would flip the #28 pick for more cash and perhaps the NY pick that Houston has. Houston is always getting into the late lottery to grab a sliding talent.

We could end up with next year and future years 3 more first rounders with Washingtons and Charlottes (via Chicago) picks being the gems.... as well as the NY pick next year.... plus that 6M doesn't hurt either.

I'd be shocked if anyone is trading their unprotected 2012 draft pick for a player this year. Unless you are talking a perennial playoff team.
