Anyone else love Jimmer one week, but hate him the next?

Post#1 » by Xsy » Sun Jun 19, 2011 11:17 am

I still have no idea how I feel about the kid.

Right now I'm high on Jimmer. Last week I would have been disappointed with Utah selecting him at 12. Now I'm sort of okay with it.

This has happened like, five times.

Yes. And I feel the same way about Brandon Knight, Kahwi Leonard, Alec Burks, Enes Kanter, Jonas V., and Kemba Walker. This draft is filled with players who might be good but all have questions marks in one way or another. I just hope the Jazz brass has done their homework and chooses the guy they want rather than someone who falls to them that they think is the best choice (ala humphries or snyder who seemed like good choices at the time).

I"m thinking the smartest move for the Jazz might be to draft Jimmer and then trade him. His current rock star status is worth something right now and who knows what type of proven player we could get for him.

All in all this will be a fun draft because of the question marks and I think no matter what happens, the Jazz may come away with a couple of very good players.

I'm day to day on Jimmer. Love him one day, scared to death of him the next. All-in-all, I don't think its in the Jazz best interest to draft him. Too many expectations for a guy with his limited (albeit valuable) skill set.

Unless Williams or Irving miraculously fall to #3, I really don't like either Knight or Vesely or Kanter in that spot. I would hope that the Jazz could find a way to trade the pick for a youngish established player , or move down a couple of spots, get an asset and still draft Knight.

At the 12, it wouldn't actually surprise me to see Jimmer on the board and to see the Jazz pass on him. If I am the Jazz, I try to move that #12 pick for a first rounder next year in a much better draft.

Jimmer is exactly the kind of guy you need to be worried about Going into the draft. He's clearly entered the workout wonder class of player, and those guys don't pan out all that often.

We saw that he had serious limitations in college, he isn't a great ball handler, he lacks foot speed, he was an alright decision maker but clearly not a great decision maker, and was always shoot first, and settled for some terrible shots. And all of that speaks nothing of the fact that he simply didn't play defense. Then you need to look at the fact that he's one of the oldest players in the draft so he's likely the closest to being a finished project, and despite his good measurement numbers, he doesn't have great size or athleticism in game situations.

However his maturity has come out in his workouts, and his ability to hit shots at an unbelievable rate when unguarded is impressive.

The problem is a lot of those things he did in college may not translate at all. He's going to have to come off screens in the NBA to get open because the speed is so much better, and he may struggle to get that separation he got in college. If he is a two guard he has terrible size, and if he doesn't play defense he's a big time liability, especially on the wing.

Not seeing him for three months, mixed with praise from his workouts has made us forget about what were obvious holes in his game, and those things dont just magically fix themselves. All the problems he had in college will be there in the NBA, and I think they'll be pretty apparent from the get go.

I'd we end up taking him at 12 I'll know why, but I think there will be much better options.

Good right up Bat, I concur. Jimmer was fine for a college system designed to optimize his strengths and downplaying his weaknesses. That does not happen in the NBA. You don't spend four years completely disregarding half of the game and becoming even average at it when you are 22 and past major improvements physically.

I like Jimmer but most of all im JazzFan, and i think that in Jazz case much more risky is not picking Fredette than picking him.

The marketing team for the Jazz would love Jimmer. Lots of Jimmer jerseys to sell for sure. Make up for those Williams jerseys in the warehouse.

Revenue from jersey sales and other official NBA apparel is shared evenly among all franchises.

Bat I respect your opinion alot. However I tend to disagree with this one on Jimmer. I really think that he is going to have a 10-12 yr NBA career with a better overall game than Redick, Korver, and compare favorably to Jason Terry with more PG skills. I could be totally wrong on this, but I think he will be a VERY good back up PG or a good starter. If he was drafted to the Jazz I would want him to be a 6-7th man for those 10-12 yrs. No one we draft at 12 is going to be a starter for us anyway..
He has as much game as anyone that will be drafted in the 12 range. With the benefit of huge jazz fan interest from sales, attendance, and overall buzz about the team. I love the Jazz and wouldn't mind having another guy that would be a blast to watch. I just read an story online, I think from Chad ford about a NBA Scout who said that Jimmer is shifty and will be able to get his shot off at anytime in the NBA.
We all have our doubts about Jimmer, but I believe that he will make alot of teams mad that they passed on him. I just hope the Jazz aren't one of them.

I hope he goes #7 so we can stop worrying about him.

I'm happy with him at #12 though. Unless Biyombo is on the board still. Then for hells sake take Biyombo.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I've always been high on Jimmer, even before the workouts and hoopla got started.

The guy I flip flop on is Brandon Knight. One day I like him, the next I loathe him. I'm not even sure what to think of him right now...

The hoopla just started? I don't think it just started. I'm pretty sure people in Utah have been talking about Jazz drafting Jimmer since, well, forever.

JImmer is not just a basketball player, he is also a Rock Star. That can pose problems with the team. How tired are they going to be every night after a game when the main question reporter's ask is: What do you think about Jimmer?

I'm a Jimmer fan and think he will be a good NBA player, but I won't be disappointed if the Jazz go a different direction.

But he is a lot of fun to watch.

do i really have to  its not about loving or hating Jimmer, or being BYU homer (specially in my case, guy from Warsaw/Poland :) ), Jimmer imo represents almost everything that Jazz need right now-he is playmaker; shooter; guy with leadership abilities, he can be great team "frontman" and so one.

For me that is really incredible story, that in this year draft we can get guy like him, local homie who answers so many important teams needs ( of course that local does not determinate any thing, i would love to have him in our team even if he would be a project of ... Syracuse :) ).

Im strongly convinced that chances of Jimmer failing in Jazz uniform are belove ... some thing like10 %- with his skills, work ethic, his psyche, that guy will be very good NBA player. Those comparison to Mark Price, Jasson Terry etc have strong issues. By the way the first time i saw him play, and that was 09/10 season, i didnt know nothing about him and my first remark was that kid is next Stevie Nash. Some peps will say that Nash is different league then Fredette, but im old enough to remember Nash beginnings so i wont crossed Jimmer chances to be next all star pg.

Things are simple as that, this year draft is poor when we talk about prospects, behind Irving and i guess Williams, Fredette got top priority imo, and what is important we dont have to talk is #3 to high etc. we dont have to even trade that #3, with Jazz assets like next year draft picks and so one i think O'Connor can get Jimmer if he will really wonts to.

I got mixed thoughts about our GM, but i like his late draft picks, FA signings, so i rely on Kevin O'Connor when it comes to this year draft, no matter where Fredette will land i wish him all the best, he deserved, only if it wont be Utah im really praying that Jazz pick will eventually overpass Jimmer because if not, and Fredette will play big somewhere else, that would be such a great great shame.

ok but you are not talking about young Bryant, James etc. you are talking about good, humble person, from my experience i think other players will easy find themselves on the same page with Jimmer. And most of all, now Jazz is a team without some one who can be named teams trademark, after Williams trade, Jerrys retirement Utah Jazz looks like team without identity, Jimmer can be a good solution for also that.

I'm wondering who the Jazz could rip from the Knicks trading down to their spot so they can trade up for the 12 to get Jimmer... Any thoughts?

I was referring to his NBA draft stock, not Jimmer-mania.

Do you guys forget he was projected as a mid first rounder at best before his workouts and the combine happened? Now he is in talks at the #5 pick....hoopla indeed.
