Chard Ford just said....

Post#1 » by erudite23 » Tue Jun 21, 2011 9:11 pm

....on the BS Report http://espn.go.com/espn/grantland/# .......

.....that the TWolves have been asking for 3 and 12 to move back a spot. If this is true and the Jazz aren't considering it I would be quite unhappy. Ford dropped that tidbit after Simmons suggested a scenario in which Cleveland drafted Derrick Williams #1 and Minny was faced with the proposition of taking Irving at 2 or trading down.

If that situation arose and the Jazz balked at the paltry cost of the 12 in order to get the best player in this draft, I will be most unhappy.

#12 is higher than the Jazz pick in most drafts. I wouldn't call the 12 a "paltry" cost. If I'm Minnesota that is a great deal. Why don't you just make Minnesota make their pick at #2 and then take whoever is left between Knight and Irving and keep the 12? Is Irving that much better than Knight?

I wouldn't do it either. There is no indication that Derrick Williams will be a superstar. I like the possibility of Kanter and Singleton or Knight and Singleton. Despite with a lot of people say about a weak draft and everything, our 12 pick this year has value.

I would think that the Jazz want to wait until CLE picks to make sure that Irving is still available at 2.

#3 and #12 for a tweener? No thanks, I rather have hamilton with the #12 if we are looking for a potential high scorer.

I'd do it in an instant for Irving and I'd consider doing it for Williams. But I haven't watched thousands of hours of tape on these guys like Perrin and KOC have. This is going to be a fun draft.

I don't know why Utah would want to reward Minnesota for already having a competent PG and SF.

My guess is the jazz have this offer on the table, and are waiting until the draft to make sure they don't miss out on something better.

Personally, I think this deal gets done on Thursday.

It isn't about rewarding another team... It is about what is doing best for your team.

Exactly. If that scenario unfolds, Minny WILL take Irving. If we don't flip 12 for him, they will deal him to Cleveland for #4 or Toronto at #5 or a team wanting to trade a high level vet. They won't just take Kanter (or whomever) at 2. If we want Irving, we're going to have to give value. And considering how rarely the 12th pick in the draft ever turns into anything of serious value, you're likely looking at giving up a decent role player or a flat out bust to upgrade from Knight--good prospect who has an outside shot at being special--for Irving--great prospect who's floor is very high and who has a solid shot at being special.

That's a big upgrade, and the price is low. Its a deal you do every time.

its a deal you do every time when there is a clear super star in the draft not this draft. This is one where anyone from 1-10 are all questionable. Rather keep our picks or trade down.

I have said several times that I am missing something in terms of Knight, because Knight compared to Irving is not even close IMHO.

I am with erudite. I give up Jimmer at #12 and Kanter at #3 for Irving at #2. (Assuming Irving checks out physically). However; I don't do the same deal if Williams is at #2.

I am blinded by my predjudice, but I think that Williams extreme egocentric view of the world makes his team worse, and is not worth the potential of Kanter and Jimmer.

The fact that most of us would do it in an instant for Irving reinforces my belief that the Jazz won't have that option; in other words, the Cavs will pick Irving. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems like a stretch at this point to come up with a reason why they wouldn't.

To me it is obvious the Jazz do not give up picks 3 and 12 for Irving or Williams. Our bench is too lousy.
All the injuries last year left this team struggling big time.

Anybody on our bench can be replaced 1 for 1 with a lottery pick with a higher upside.

Example, if we take Knight at 3 he replaces Price. Which means we likely take a big next and I would prefer Biyombo or Donatas M. at 12 over Fesenko or Elson.

I'd do it for Williams and think we got a steal like we did last last time we moved up in the draft to get a D-will. I'm really hoping it happens again.

Concur. Hayward/Williams/Favors core would be sick.

Here is my wet dream for Thursday:

Minny wants Kanter and will trade #2 for #3 and #20 for #12.

Cleveland will take Williams at #1 planning on picking up Knight at #4.

Jazz get Irving at #2.

Two lottery picks aren't worth moving up one spot in this draft. Sorry but it's just not worth it. I'm perfectly content with where we sit with both of those picks.

I'm not as huge an Irving fan as everyone else seems to be. I'd rather have Knight actually, and to trade 2 picks to get Irving makes me throw up a little in my mouth.
