Jazz have to take a PG at 3

The way the draft scenarios seem to play out the best PGs will be gone by #12. If Jazz stand pat they pretty much have to take their favorite PG at 3 (Knight?).
I hear Donatas M. is up to about 245 pounds, so I like him at 12, though Biyombo would be ok.

The Jazz do not have to take a PG at 3..... If they believe Kanter will be better than any of the PGs, why wouldn't you take him?
We still have Harris, who was by the way an All-Star......

Ya we don't need to take Knight at the #3...you take BPA and I firmly believe that Kanter is a superior prospect to Knight.
We don't need to draft a stud PG to get back to being in the playoffs...in fact a lot of playoff teams don't have all-star type PG's.

I agree.
And NO to Kanter! He's Hoffa/Koufos 2.0.
He plays NO defense. This giuy is going to be a liability like Boozer on that end. And people always say he 's a good rebounder, but just look at this video.

He gets no lift on his jumps, so he won't be able to rebound as well or block shots at the next level. And he will get his shot blocked at the rim plenty.
And in HS, he was a "man amongst boys." He used to just bully smaller people in the post, even though he's not a good athlete. When the defenders are bigger and faster at the NBA level, he won't be able to score on them.
He's gonna be a bust, I guarantee it.
If Kahn draft Kanter ahead of Williams, he should be fired immediately (even though he should've already been fired). That might be the dumbest move in the history of the NBA draft (even dumber than drafting 2 PGs with back-to-back picks). Kanter/Love/Beasley would be the worst defensive frontcourt of ALL-TIME! But I hope they take him and let Williams fall to us. Or we can just take Knight.
Either way, it's a WIN/WIN, as long as we don 't take Kanter.

They do if Minny takes Williams, they don't if they take Kanter. Simple as that.

Williams will not be available at 3. Somebody will trade up to get him if Minnie doesn't want him. Might even be Jazz, but I said for this thread Jazz stand pat at 3 and 12.
Jazz have to take a PG in case Harris or Watson is injured. I like Ronnie Price's energy, but he is NOT a PG.
We cannot take Kanter or any other BPA at 3 when our PG position is so thin.
Of course we can take Kanter, trade 12 and Millsap or some combination thereof to move up for a PG.
Again, this thread is if Jazz stand pat

This isn't the greatest video to judge Kanter-- then again, what video is? But yeah, he had a back injury, and wasn't even supposed to play in that game. Turns out he broke Dirk's Nike Hoops Summit record injured.

Unless Minny wants Kanter. Then he will be available.

Harris has nothing to do with who they take. Like you said if the Jazz think that Kanter is better then they will pick him. I just dont really see how anyone can say that Kanter is better than knight or vise versa. We dont know what Kanter will be in the NBA.
To me what the Jazz are asking themselves is if Kanter is worth the risk. What is his ceiling? it could be really high but just as likely, it could be pretty low. Knight is a safe pick because you know what type of player he is and that even if he doesnt reach allstar potential he will be an above average player.
So do the Jazz believe that Kanter can at the very least become a serviceable big? maybe, if they do they pick him because he has then become low risk high reward like knight. but with the little amounts of info on Kanter I think that is mighty difficult to say.
So you are essentially asking yourself, do we take the risk and possibly to hit a home run or possibly fail? or do we play it safe and pick knight, someone we know will come in and work his butt off to get better?
Considering the history of the Jazz being fairly conservative, it makes me lean more towards them picking knight. But if they pick Kanter then I trust that they have done all they can to evaluate him and i have no problem with it.

At what other position do we have a starter that has been an allstar.

You folks talking about a big at #3 don't seem to realize that no PG of note is likely to be available at #12. If Harris or Watson gets injured, we have one PG on the team. Do you really want the possibility of Watson/Price or Watson/D league PG?

Didn't you post this EXACT same thing in another thread earlier? We get it bro. You were wrong earlier and you still are.

You want a #3 or #12 third string PG?
Watson is a fantastic backup PG. If Utah doesn't pick up a guard in the draft, I would love to see him come back. There's also a good chance that Utah will be scouting undrafted talents. Or sign another vet for cheap.
We don't HAVE to take a PG. Devin Harris is a top fifteen point guard in the league, Utah fans have just been spoiled in the PG position for forever.

lol jk Okur being an All-Star was luck due to injury.
I disagree with juging Kanter's athletic ability by how high he jumps on his jumper. Some of the best shooter in the game don't have a lot of lift such as Ray Allen. (and to compare apples to apples Okur)
Okur is not a bad rebounder and Kanter does not have the alligator arms Hoffa did. Kanter also has a much stronger body than Koufos who got pushed around a lot. Kanter tested pretty good at the combine on his vert so he is capible. I also think that Kanter saying he enjoyed working specifically with Corbin.

Sadly, pg's just don't matter that much. I'm a firm believer your best player needs to be 6'5 or bigger to compete for a ring, so no the jazz don't have to get a pg at 3.

Funny, of all the teams in the lottery I kinda had Utah pegged as one that would just draft BPA and not worry about position.

Here are some other guys who were one-time All Star selections:
Tyrone Hill
Jamaal Magloire
B.J. Armstrong
Dale Davis
Chris Gatling
James Donaldson
Wally Szczerbiak
Nick Van Exel
But Devin Harris really shouldn't factor into this decision. Neither should Al Jefferson. I don't think either of those guys is going to be around when the No. 3 pick hits his stride in the NBA. That's why you pick BPA and you think longterm. Discussing team needs and what not gives lazy draft analysts a way to justify their predictions but I don't think it factors into the choice the Jazz will make.

I think the real test of this PG theory will be the next decade in the NBA, since you've got a very good group of point guards in Rose, D-Will, Westbrook, CP3 and potentially John Wall. (I leave Rondo out because I think he'll fade pretty quickly once the Boston 3 do)

I'm just sick of hearing that we need a point, I hear it everywhere I turn.
From my chair the biggest need on this team is a 2 followed by 5.
I have no faith that Memo will ever be the same. I don't mind big Al at the 5, but he is playing out of position. Fess and Elson............ 2 large pizzas and a diet coke. they are gone, and I feel like we got the better end of the deal.
Where do you even start when it comes to the 2 spot, all we have is Hayward and he really is more of a 3. You can have CJ and Bell for a happy meal and a smile.
As far as the draft goes I believe KOC will go BPA and sort out the roster later.
