What makes B Knight A Top 5 pick???

The more I look at game film and stats the more I wonder why he is a top 5 pick.

Average Athletically
Lightest player at the combine
Can't drive to his left
Dribbles into traffic too much
Shoot first guard
Average passing ability
Terrible T/A ratio
Average shooter
Average court vision

There is some good things but I just question why top 5? Is this yrs draft that bad?

He is young and did improve somewhat over the season. He looks like he would be a good defensive player. His decision making did improve somewhat over the season. I just don't see him as a point guard with his bad ball control skills.

He's not an average shooter. He needs polish, but he's clutch, and a great leader. He should improve a lot when he gets to the NBA.

Look here. The can't drive to his left, average shooter, average athleticism, shoot first guard, average passing ability, and average court vision are all myths.

The guy got a bad wrap early in his freshman season and couldn't shake it despite how much he improved. If we don't move up to 2, I hope we take him at 3.

Try reading any mock draft scouting report of him.

He has good physical tools and the proper frame to fill out nicely. He's not explosive or blazing fast but he has good lateral quickness and good footwork. He's good under pressure, hard worker, and basically has all the important intagibles that gonna make him a really good and valuable player. Plus he is a much better shooter and defender than most recently drafted pgs. All his weakness can be improved with time, no big deal. I think he's very worthy of a top 5 pick in virtually any draft.

Average Athletically: False. Above average, and extremely crafty. Was Stockton an athletic freak? Jason Kidd? I'd say Brandon is still more athletic than both.

Lightest player at the combine: Because of his 4% body fat. If you're worried about strength, he benched more than many PF's and C's did.

Can't drive to his left: Legitimate concern - but "can't" is hardly the operative word here. "Struggles" is more appropriate.

Dribbles into traffic too much: Another legitimate concern (what player doesn't have any coming into the draft?). This is easily corrected.

Shoot first guard: Averaged same assist #'s as Deron did his Freshman year - Knight was one of the best scorers on the team and acted accordingly.

Average passing ability: I think he shows the ability to pass really well, go watch some actual footage. Passing is listed as one of his strengths by DX and several other sites.

Terrible T/A ratio: Absolutely - good news is it got substantially better as the season progressed.

Average shooter: WTF? Calipari called him the "best shooting PG I have ever coached". Again, his shooting #'s were better than Deron's his freshman year.

Average court vision: I definitely disagree with this. Just watch some video. He played in a system with a lot of perimeter passing where he rarely had a chance to directly create. But there are several instances when his court vision is on display.

Come on, the guy was Freshman expected to step in and carry an entire team in the footsteps of Evans, Rose and Wall. He's a 4.0 student, a perfectionist and a relentless worker. He knows his weaknesses and I believe he'll do everything he can to improve.

Tons of talented players fall off the face of the earth because they're lazy. Knight is talented AND has the incredible work ethic of greats such as Stockton, Bird, even MJ. Not comparing his skill set to these guys; they're just all examples of players that worked hard to get where they got.

I guess a lot of teams thought the same as me. I personally was thinking somewhere between 7-10 would be realistic if the Jazz passed on him. I thought he was bit of a reach at the 3 pick. I'm excited the Jazz drafted Kanter but not so sure about passing over Leonard at #12.
When they interviewed Burks it looked like something was wrong with him. He looked like he had quiver lips like someone I use to know when they were doing meth
