This is pretty simple, and hopefully it will be a fun discussion during the lockout. If there were to be an expansion draft, what 8 players from your roster would you protect?

The rules:
1. Unrestricted free agents are not available to an expansion team to draft.
2. Unsigned draft picks are not available for the expansion team to draft.
3. Restricted free agents are available.
4. Each team must have at least one player unprotected, so if team x had 8 players under contract and 4 that were UFAs, it could only protect 7 players.
5. The expansion team can only draft one player from each roster and must have at least 14 players.

Well, if rookies don't count, leaving off kanter and burks, plus our ufa's, I think we only have 8 players under contract that would be available.

bye bye okur. whichever team was expanding would take him in a heartbeat. if the object was to keep all our players, then leave evans unprotected. i think he has less of a chance of being picked up than okur or miles does.

Well, I guess for our means say that Kanter and Burks are signed. Then it gets a little tough to decide who to keep. Memo? gone. Bell? gone. Who's the last player? I'd say Miles, but....

God, I forgot bell was on the team. You just ruined my holiday weekend babyjax.

Bell would not get taken so leaving him open would not mean he is gone. Okur might get taken because he is expiring and gets the new team to the minimum salary level easier. Then they would take youngish cheap contracts.

Can we give them pavlovic again?

I'd make Bell available. Part of me is really optimistic that Memo can come back and hit a bunch of clutch 3's like he used to. I love watching him shoot. I don't expect him ever to return to his previous form, but hopefully he can sitll be a contributor and floor-spacer off the bench.

You should post this in the General Board. Have each team board come up with their list of unprotected players to put into the pool. Then let people see who they would draft if they were the GM of the new expansion team.

A Contraction Draft may be more fun to speculate with considering the league's threat of contraction. New Orleans, maybe another team or two. How would a draft like that work?

But I can see a new expansion team in the near future. NO, SEA, and even NJ wants a team once the nets move

That is what I am working on right now, actually. I still have a couple of forums to post this in, then I have to do some tallies, but I should have it done by the end of the week.
