Boston Fan here feeling the trade waters. With your depth at PF/C would you be interested in trading Al for Jeff Green and Delonte West + 2012 top 10 protected clippers pick. You'd get a young combo guard who can shoot the three and a stretch four who has decent perimeter range. The 2012 top ten protected (unprotected in 2016) Clip pick is a good sweetener to your rebuilding plans.

Obviously Celts need a center and Al fits the bill since we would get offense to match our defensive minded team. Jeff Green and Clip pick both came from the KP trade so its basically a swap of centers for us.

What do you think?

That's actually a somewhat intriguing offer. I've always been a huge Jeff Green fan. I think he'd do a nice job at the 3, with Hayward at the 2. And obviously a draft pick is enticing, with next year's draft being so deep and us not having our own pick if we happen to make the playoffs.

Delonte West seems borderline-psychotic, so I'm not sure we'd have much interest there. This would also depend on Jeff Green's willingness to agree to a sign-and-trade.

I don't really like Green and West-- maybe find a third team?

Thanks for replying I'm glad that it sounds intriguing. Jeff Green is a good talent he just struggled midstream in the boston rotation. I like his range, versatility and character. I didn't know the Jazz don't have a 2012 pick where was it traded too?

We actually gave it to Minnesota in the Al Jefferson trade. It's lottery-protected, though.

The challenges here are that Delonte West is not likely to be of interest to the Jazz and is a free agent so he would have to be a sign-and-trade. Jeff Green's is coming off his rookie contract and due new one. His QO is almost $6 mill/year and I'm assuming he will want a long term deal. Those variables would complicate a deal.

Delonte also has to be a S&T. And I don't really think anyone is going to pay him that much anyways.

The only part of the trade that I like is the pick. Green is more of a 6th man and West is basically useless for us. I am not againt trading Big Al or Millsap but I want a player that impacts us at the 2 or 3. A Danny Granger type player is what we need.

I think Id be interested in rondo and picks . if I were looking to trade with boston.

Jeff Green is a decent player, but the prize would be the pick. I think I'd do it (I cringe as I say it though) - I think we should get a bit more value, but this is close. Too bad you don't still have Semih Erden, I would have loved a package of Erden+Green+2012 LAC 1st.

Boston fan back. What if we sweeten the deal further Jeff Green + 2012 (top ten protected until 2016) Clippers Pick + 2016 New Jersey 2nd round pick. Thats a sweet deal for Utah's future going forward. Jeff Green is a versatile 6'9 swingman who's a good perimeter/ 3pt shooter/slasher who ave.15 ppg with OKC. For Boston we still have our own picks intact and we get an improvement at center from the KP trade.

Never been a big fan of Green myself.

Not quite ready to get rid of Jefferson either. I want to see how Kanter does first. Maybe he sucks. Maybe he needs to start. I dunno. Until I do, I don't want to move Jefferson unless the deal is overwhelmingly good.

i know the jazz aren't exactly in a "win now" mode, with all their lottery picks they are putting on their roster, but al is a big piece to give up. green is a good swing man, but the jazz have a few of those already. west would be a good backup to harris as well. but i think the millers have been on record saying they prefer good character guys. i think they would be hesitant on picking up a guard with a past including mental instability.

big al may becoming redundant with all the big talent the jazz have. but not as redundant as another (maybe) lottery pick, or another swing man, or another guy with character issues. al may not be THE future of the utah jazz, but he is a bigger part of it than most people here give him credit for.(i'm thinking of memo season 1 for the jazz, v. memo season 2 here-THAT kind of difference of seasons)

Since when did Al become worth Granger or even Green? Last I saw, he was gotten for cap space and late firsts... Granger surely has much more value than that, and so does Green IMO. Plus, Jazz are getting the Clippers 2012 pick (which is only top TEN protected, meaning if their end of lottery you still get a 11-14 pick).

This is a very good deal for the Jazz IMO, because it clears a gut, gets help at a position of need (ie. wing) and also a decent draft pick.

I'd assume JO(expiring)/Bradley/filler/Lac 1st/3mil would be all Boston is willing to hand over for his services (because they could have gotten him if they really were interested for much cheaper from Minny). They might even throw in their own first, but I really don't see them giving Green up here. Jefferson doesn't address their biggest issue, a true defensive center, so I don't know how much interest they even have.

Hence why I said Indiana probably wouldn't do it (though it's not as insulting an offer as you're suggesting). But let's not get carried away here. Minnesota wanted cap space and Al was a bad fit there. Does that suddenly make him a garbage player with no future value to other teams? It's a ridiculous conclusion to draw.

I would lean toward accepting the trade because I like Green's game and think he'd be a good fit for our system. But let's get some perspective here:

Al Jefferson (2010-2011): 19 PPG, 10 RPG, 2 BPG, 50% FG, 76% FT
Jeff Green (2010-2011): 15 PPG, 5 RPG, 1 APG, 49% FG, 79% FT

To act as if we're ripping them off like thieves in the night is pretty silly.

The Celtics may need a defensive center, but they've got lots of other needs too. For instance, another bonafide scorer with young legs to take pressure off the big three would be a huge help to them, especially if it's someone capable of working down low, since Boston has two excellent perimeter threats. Jermaine O'Neal and Glen Davis don't exactly inspire a lot of confidence in that role.

Maybe Boston wouldn't be interested. But it's certainly not an outrageous proposal.
