Jazz players on top 100 NBA lists.

Post#1 » by Jazzfan12 » Fri Aug 5, 2011 10:50 pm

SI's The Point Forward has AK47 at 85, Harris at 60, and Al at 53. They've just released 51-60 so they haven't done top 50, but Millsap is in that group somewhere. CBS is also doing a top 100, but have only done 81-100 and haven't gotten to any Jazz players yet.

Ronnie Price must be in that Top 50 as well!

I remember reading somewhere that Price was literally the second worst player in the entire NBA.

I can think of plenty of players off the top of my head that are worse than Ronnie.

Raja Bell last year may have actually been the worst player in the league, he was clearly the worst SG.

i wudda expected big al to be higher than that. and im suprised at the lack of hayward. though, not to seem too homer-ish, i am also suprised ak is even on the list.(though he is still one of my favorites)

I'm actually stunned that AK isn't ranked higher.

Al is fairly low too....

when you think about top 100 players in the league, it is pretty limited. think about fantasy basketball. i know that fantasy is primarily stats driven, but chris paul and lebron james aren't the number 1 and 2 guys in fantasy for no reason. in a standard yahoo league, the top 100 guys are the ones on the teams, and 100-120 are the ones bouncing around the waiver wire.

i'm pretty sure big al would have been picked up before the 5th round, and im not sure memo would even be on a team. sure, fantasy and real game will vary, but they are close enough to give some idea where players might rank.

Haris at #60 seems generous to me given the player I saw play for the Jazz last year.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Apparently this guy doesn't watch a lot of jazz games.

I haven't given the list a thorough going-over, but if you look at the NBA's top 60, that would be roughly "The Top 12 Players at Each Position." I'd say Devin's definitely a top-12 PG.

I was speaking specifically to his stint as a Jazz player.

He scored, sure. But, shot 41%.
He didn't even get a 2-1 assist to TO ratio
He didnt' manage even one steal a game
His defense is ok
And by my eye the Jazz played better when he was injured and Hayward took over some PG duties.

A lot of times, I thought we were better with Watson.

Now if you look at career numbers he's top 60, sure. But if you restrict your focus to his play as a Jazz man, as I did, I don't think he's a top 60 player.

I'd have to sit down and think through who may have been outperforming him while he was on the Jazz, but wouldn't argue that his performance with us was not up to his usual standard. I'm optimistic we'll see things improve quite a bit when they've got a full camp under their belts.

Here are my top 12 for what its worth, in no particular order. I'd say Harris is right there on the heels though for me...

Rose
Deron
CP3
Wall
Nash
Westbrook
Conley
Collison
Curry
Parker
Rondo
Miller

Out of curiosity, who does Harris replace on your list?

Good question. He beats Conley and Collison quite easily for me, and Miller by a smaller margin. I'd consider him over Parker, but would have to give that more thought. That's a harder argument.

Ty Lawson
Jrue Holiday
Kyle Lowry
Chauncy Billups
Tyreke Evans

and probably not up for the rankings but, Irving, Knight, and Walker.

What is there to recommend Harris over Conley based on last years stats (Jazz only)?

Conley shot better. He racked up mroe than double the steals. He had nearly a 3/1 assist to ratio. Plus unless i"M mistaken he's cheaper and younger.
