If Brandon Roy does retire for medical reasons as is being reported, he gets paid his full contract (minus team option I'm assuming) but comes off the Blazers' books one year from retirement...

Its the Darius Miles thing, except in this case it would be Roy intentionally sabotaging the only team and fan base he's ever known rather than going for a comeback, which might be something he does in a normally paced season.
