My pipe dream is that the following things happen:

1) NJ busted for tampering. Forced to forfit draft picks, and also lose out on ability to trade for Dwight Howard.

2) Deron Williams is now faced with the prospect of signing an extension with a team that has no ability to draft new players or trade for another good player. Not only this, but he is now competing as a free agent against CP3 and Howard, which makes it much harder for him to have a say in where he'd like to play if he wants to also sign an extension.

3) Utah offers NJ the GSW pick, a future 1st, CJ Miles, Raja Bell, and their choice of Jefferson or Millsap for an extended Deron Williams.

4) Williams, of the Kobe breed who wants to be he cornerstone of a championship and be the man instead of riding coat-tails like Lebron and CP3, takes a good look at Utah's roster and concludes the following lineup is the best chance to win a ring in the aging West.

PG: Williams (drafted #3)
SG: Burks (drafted #12)
SF: Hayward (drafted #9)
PF: Favors (drafted #3)
C: Kanter (drafted #3)

5) Sloan and Johnson come back to coach the team in exchange for Greg Miller promising never to show his face on in Jazz facilities or have a say in any basketball-related decisions so long as the Jazz are operating under the luxury tax.

Points one and two may be very likely to transpire. The Jazz though, would either simply wait to be players in free agency, or would be required to offer up a better package in an extend and trade deal.

The snag: Williams holds grudges. Never forgave Sloan for the McCloud fiasco his rookie year.

Not saying any of this would happen, thats why its a pipe dream.

BUT....if you are Williams, and you had many good years running the show as an All-Star in Utah before all the talent walked out the door and you were traded for being unhappy.....you'd probably not think twice to go back and win everyone over again if you thought the roster had the talent to win a championship.

The west is getting old. Spurs and Lakers current cores are nearly up. Mavs nearly done too. Only Thunder and Grizzlies are young and dominant. Although I do think Adelman will have that Wolves team in the playoffs.

This is at least a possibility. The Jazz will have the cap room, if they wish it, to sign him outright next off season. So no need to sign and trade him. I would love this, and I think it would give us a legit chance to contend. Although if everyone develops, we would have to give up either Kanter or Favors when they come up for new contracts. But we'd have a few years before that reality set in.

As I understand it, an extension is basically giving up money under the new CBA, so even if D-Will wants to be somewhere he won't extend. I think the most likely scenario is we make a good showing this year (possibly playoffs?) and then make a run at him as a FA

I watched Deron's last interview to a Turkish TV ~10 days ago. There he was asked about everything; Sloan, Utah Jazz, Kanter. He responded very frankly and smartly. Among other things, he said "Utah has huge potential", "Yes, I had some problems with Sloan but it's been exaggerated", "I will certainly consider coming back to Turkey when my NBA career ends", " "I will see how this year turns out with the Nets then decide off-season"
