Corbin answered a few questions and did not rule out starting Burks. Seems like hes happy with the players effort and shape. Starting the season on a good note is very good.

I think this a really good sign that is thread worthy (Not sure what Mr. Patch thinks).

Why do you think Sloan never had a rookie of the year player? Because he never gave rookies a chance. He always told them they never had a chance to really start or have a significant role with the team. This is a good sign that Corbin is open to giving everyone an equal shot which in return will keep everyone focused and improving to keep up with each other competing with each other. I am way excited to see the new changes that Corbin is going to bring to Sloans out dated methods. GO JAZZ!!!!!!

I think the reason the Jazz never had rookie of the year was because 90% of rookies that came in under Sloan were drafted #20 or later.

How many rookie's of the year were drafted by a team that was in the playoffs the year before?

Thats a great question but I beleive it might have only been Larry Bird in 78. In 1977Celtics finished 7th in the East and were eliminated by the 76ers in the conference semi finals. The next year they drafted Larry Bird who beat out rival Magic Johnson for the honors but I might be mistaken :D

Sloan allowed Matthews to play and simply played rookies that really deserved to play. What it sounds like with Burks, is that his work with Heyward in the off season and his work so far in camp is maybe making him the next Matthews with ahtletic ability. Sounds good so far and I would love to have him start, but more important to me is that Favors starts.

I afraid to say I think Corbin is starting Milsap and Jefferson over Favors.

Victims of our own success.

Deron was the first top 10 pick Utah had since Thurl Bailey in 1983.

That is true, but Sloan had a lot to do with it. This is the guy that at one time started both Keith McCleod and Milt Palacio over Deron Willaims his rookie year....the idea of Milt Palacio starting over anyone is mind boggling to me, but does show that Sloan just hates rookies for whatever reason.

Well that's moot, Nate, but do you think Williams would have won ROY without Sloan benching him for those dozen games or something?

(FYI: D-Will was 6th in voting with 31 points. Paul won it with 20 times that number)

We're hearing a lot of good things come out of camp about Burks. I don't put much stock into these things though. The team may be going PR, they may be trying to give the kid confidence, or they may be trying to hype him up to increase his market value.

Mark Jackson was calling Klay ROY and a definite starter after the first hour coaching him. Please. That was a sign the organization was trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip trade they were pushing.

Yeah, but look at the circumstances. Boston went 32-50 and was the 8th seed in the East in the 1977-1978 season. Bird was drafted, with the 6th pick, in 1978 but went back to college for his senior year and didn't begin his NBA career until the 1979-1980 season. During the 1978-1979 season Boston went 29-53 and the following year, in Bird's rookie season, the Celtics went 61-21.

Bottom line is that Sloan was handicapped by the Jazz success.

The best Jazz rookies under Sloan were AK, DWill and who? Shandon Anderson? Greg Ostertag? Paul Millsap?

So it really comes down to D-Will, which has been discussed ad naseum. Doesn't matter how good he was or how much he played, he wasn't going to be ROY. Use your brains, please.
