Why Favors is playing 17.5 min per game?

Post#1 » by FJS » Thu Dec 29, 2011 2:23 pm

I simply don't get it.

The guys has to have all the confidence possible. To play 35 min per game and show what he can do.
Yesterday he got 10 reb in 16 min. We were to lose, so left him try to do a double double. 10 points 18 reb or so... I don't understand what kind of logic Corbin has.

The foul trouble accounts for the lack of minutes in the first quarter. After the first quarter in these two games they have been getting out scored. Corbin doesn't have faith in Favors scoring ability so he feels that he must play Milsap and Jefferson. This is why I don't think trying to win while rebuilding will work.

While he has been picking up his 2nd foul early in the 1st quarter he does not remain in foul trouble the rest of the game as Corbin barely plays him the rest of the game. In both games Favors has picked up 2 quick fouls and sat for the rest of the half. Corbin could easily bring him back in the 2nd quarter like every coach does but he doesn't.

I have no problem with Millsap getting his minutes. He and Hayward are the only two guys that look like they have a clue what's going on out there.

But clearly Favors needs to be getting more time. Whether that comes from Al, Kanter, or playing Millsap a few minutes at the 3 (not ideal), he needs to be on the court -- and not just because he needs to "develop," but because he's by far our most effective interior defender.

If we ever are close at the end of games, we are going to need Favors. Why wear him out in blowout games.

Another train of thought is not to put too much pressure on young players. We want Favors to think through his foul problem, not reassure it.

Meh. The rotation isn't set in stone.

There is way too much premature judgment of Corbin happening on this board. The guy wasn't afforded a summer league and/or a proper training camp to prep this team for prime time.

Simply put 6 games in 8 days. And 66 games in 112 days.

Corbin knows what's going on with Favors, such as what will break his confidence and what won't.

The Jazz aren't coached by Corbin alone. They are coached by a coaching staff who has a lot of input into everything. Those guys understand the pro game and they know basketball.

The team will improve over time and the young guys will get better.

The guy is 20... I think he can play 66 times in 125 days.... knowing we're not a playoff team.

Dont know if Corbin is trying to send a message to his young player or if he felt the combo of Sap, Kanter, and Jefferson was the best combination of bigs as they Jazz tried rebounding from the momentum shift that took place mid first quarter. That said Favors didnt do anything to help his cause in the 3 1/2 minutes he played in the first quarter. He clearly allowed Nene to drive him too deep in the paint on defense as was clearly seen on the play when he picked up his 2nd foul. All in all he needs to learn that staying on the floor has more benifits then just getting rebounds and double-doubles.

You've got to be joking. If our bigs earned playing time based on how they defended Nene then Al Jefferson deserved to play less than a minute.

I don't exactly have warm fuzzy feelings about Sidney Lowe or Scott Layden. I didn't think you did, either.

No stupid fouls due to poor defense isnt going to net Favors more minutes... the difference is Big Al doesnt play "D" which the basketball worlld knows, but he also doesnt make rookie plays fouling Nene after he's been burnt on the defensive end. This allow his to stay on the floor and keep being the blackhole on the offensive side which he is known for!
