If we must have a nickname for Kanter, how about promoting Big Turk instead of Big Turkey.

Big Turkey is open for all kinds of smart ass commentary and dispersions. I know Al started it on TV, but Al really doesn't have the foresight sometimes to see all the possibilities.

I just think opposing teams and smart ass commentators are going to have too much fodder with Big Turkey.

Big turkey is really funny though. Especially if Al says it in his southern accent.... Oh I see what you mean. Well I could go for big Turk

Al Jefferson should've called Fesenko a big turkey on tv instead. U know its supposed to be complimentary though.

Of course, calling Fesenko a big turkey would be a compliment for Fesenko.

I bet Jefferson called Kanter the "big rookie", sounds the same. big turkey is funny too though for a rookie who is kindof showing him up on defense and rebounding.

It's more like Big Country Reeves.

Imagine if Al Jefferson played inTurkey and they called him Big Mississippi. That'd be pretty bad ass.

On a serious note: I hope the trifecta of dance-off humiliation, humiliating pink backpacks, and humiliating nickname doesn't affect or alienate Kanter.

Don't worry> Kanter calls Memo every 15 minutes and Memo keeps him calm.

The biggest factor is his relationship with the other players, which is very good right now.

(If the Jazz gave me a contract worth $30 mil, I would dance, wear a pink back pack, carry Al's luggage and sing happy birthday to anyone they wanted me to sing to. No, problem!)

Nicknames are too organic to control. If he becomes the player we hope he will, Big Turkey would become a name that is feared and respected, even though now it sounds ridiculous.

I mean, think about how "the mailman" sounded 30 years ago. Now its one of the great nicknames of all time and a word that elicits awe and reverence. In fact, the effect is so powerful that it might be impossible now, after all that has happened, to even see how stupid and ordinary it sounded before Karl made it The Mailman.

So don't worry. Put him in a dress and call him Susan; if he can sustain a 20+ rebound rate, play with the kind of defense and tenacity that we've seen so far, and figure out how not to get blocked every other shot, then I could give a crap. People will live in fear of Susan. That's how I see it.

To me, big turkey sounds as threatening as "fear the dear" (you know, when the bucks actually became relevant 2 seasons ago). I know it's ridiculous, but I love it.
