Raja's Back

Post#1 » by retiredcoach » Sun Jan 8, 2012 5:57 pm

Well for all the Bell haters, Tyrone is in love again, so no reduced playing time for Bell.

Here it is in Corbin's own words:

You know what, man? He's a tough guy and he's a pro, and he's going to do whatever it takes to help the team win. And that's what I respect about him. Even if his shot's not falling. And people don't understand his value and I really understand his value to this team and how he can help us win. He's done a tremendous job for us.

I'll bet you didn't know Bell's done a tremendous job for the Jazz.

Next week Corbin may fall in love with CJ one more time and then the bricks will fly!

If Raja plays to the standard he showed last night then there wouldn't be a controversy.

I don't have a problem with Bell playing 24 minutes like he did last night if Raja plays like that every night. He doesn't need to be a spectacular scorer either, just get 8-12 points a night and hit some selected jumpers/3's and play good defense.

As long as CJ isn't back also I don't really care. I love that Burks is getting minutes.

What bother's me from that quote is the last line. "He's done a tremendous job for us", because, other than last night, he's been complete and utterly HORRIBLE. I know coaches have to be "supportive" but Ty could've ended the statement without that line and it was all good. The fact that he believes that is worrisome. A player plays like Raja did for the previous 7 games and you say he's done a tremendous job? :nonono:

Yeah. While I was happy to see Raja play well (both because it's obviously better for us when he does and because he's a good guy who I want to see succeed), that one game seems to have re-energized Ty's delusions about him.

We'll see what happens...

Corbin plays players who are hot, and benches players who are cold.

I don't care who's on this team as long as he's playing who deserves to play any given night.

When I read the topic title I thought Raja had some sort of back injury. Got my hopes up :-?

Like most others have said, if Bell is hitting his shots, I don't mind if he plays...... What I mind is when he gets minutes even though he's not hitting shots, and when he's not doing anything else to help the team.......

Jazz have always had a fascination with players who "play the right way" and yet who still suck (this doesn't actually include Raja, because in his prime he could actually play).... But this players go to other teams and get zero playing time and are out of the league in a year..... So it's either that the rest of the NBA's coaches are clueless or the Jazz were, for a long time, in love with the wrong players......

As long as Burks is getting regular minutes to develop, I'm not going to nitpick whether those minutes come from Bell or CJ. They can take turns making the sacrifice. Just as long as Alec gets some burn.

blind squirrel, meet nut.

I'm not holding my breath. He's bound to have a "not-terrible" game once or twice a month. It still doesn't justify his excessive playing time.

He's playing less than 20 minutes a game right now, and that's not too bad.

You've gotta have some veteran presence.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

I'd hope that's what Millsap, Howard, Harris, Jefferson, and Watson are.

I see your point. Corbin seems to think Bell provides that better than the others, at least for the starting unit.

In my opinion, Raja in the starting lineup causes the Jazz to get off to a sluggish start. That costs them more than Raja's defense gets them.

Agree, and it's because we don't have enough creators on offense with a backcourt of Raja and Harris.
