Jerry Sloan has not ruled out a return to the NBA.

"I think if the right situation came along, whatever that is," Sloan said before pausing to ponder. "I don't know what the right situation is. We'll have to wait and see, I guess."

Sloan coached in the NBA for 23 seasons and racked up 1,221 wins.

"My energy level has changed a great deal since I quit coaching," said Sloan, who is an avid walker. "It's changed a lot now. I've had time to work out. I feel better.

"I had a chance to relax, to do something that I haven't had the time to do in 30 years. That's rewarding. You have time to spend with the family and have Thanksgiving and things like that. I enjoyed all of that. But [returning to coaching] is a decision where, if somebody talked to me, I'd review the situation like anybody else and take it from there."

Glad things are going so well for Sloan. Can't see him ever returning to the Jazz (though I'd enthusiastically welcome him back), but I'd be glad to see him coach again anywhere.

Jerry, enjoy your retirement...... Seriously, though, stay retired......

He would have a hard time coaching another team not named Utah Jazz.

What would your attitude be if one of your best employees you have ever had, including 20+years of loyalty on both sides, without warning decided to walk out in the middle of a project he had only recently sabotaged* and left the rest of the team to clean up after, which nearly crippled the franchise? all because he felt "tired" and "it was time." and now he wants the same position back but this time for a competitor?

*i say sabotaged because in the short while he, and the first assistant have been gone, all other positions that are responsible for the fluidity in the organization have remained the same. yet we have almost an entirely new team, personality, work ethic, even KOC has seemed to change how he does his job. maybe it is because he is finally allowed to do it. the team personality now verses the recent previous years with sloan(especially since LHM retired, before he passed) can only be blamed on sloan. sloan will forever be a quitter in my eyes.

Are you talking about the last three games or....

If I recall, before we were on our 3 game win streak, everyone had written off the Jazz, and Corbin.

Sloan and LHM made this organization a winner for the last 20 years. To say he sabotaged or quit on the team is obtuse and ignorant.

im saying sloan quit on the team months before he made it official. he drove the team into the ground. the organization that gave so much to the man deserved better than what he did to the jazz since greg took over. he had more 20 years of successful experience. we all know he could have done better than what he did last year.

now he wants to try again? i really wish i could wish him luck, but i just can't.

I like Jerry Sloan as a person but I always thought he was a good coach but became an old bad coach towards the end of his career. He offers nothing to any NBA team. He would simply tarnish his legacy as a coach so definitely not a good idea.

It'd be weird to see him coaching a different team.

I just don't see him coaching again, players run this league always have and will. Sloan got lucky to have LHM cause he never took crap from players but look at what just happen to Westphal, Cousin had issues with his coach and he was gone. Sloan is an old school coach who couldn't get along with D-Will. D-will has an ego but not compared to the likes of other NBA players and stars.

If sloan comes back then there is absolutely no question he didn't leave on his own terms last year.

I'm thinking he'll get hired by the Nets....


Ok not really. I think the game changed on Sloan, and his style is just no longer as effective as it once was

I think u and I are in the minority on this. Too many people can't accept that Sloan quit on the team. They instead belive he was "chased" away....

Most people don't wait until it is convenient for their employer to retire.

I don't want to see Sloan coach anywhere else for my own selfish reasons, he's a jazz guy and I'd never want to root against him.

Personally, I'm not sure if his style of basketball can win a championship in the league today, his philosophies on the floor dont best reflect the current NBA model. Look no further than our current defensive scheme and how far ahead it is of anything we've done this past decade and you can see that some of Jerry's beliefs didn't give the Jazz the best opportunity to win.

That said, he's a wiz of an offensive coach, and can get even the least talented of teams to execute an offense to at worst a league average level.

To be honest I think the place he would fit in best is Miami because it features two above average defensive wings who would benefit from a stronger offensive system, and an athletic big who would be best coming off the pick and roll.

Jerry should coach Heat, NyK that type of teams, and i truly belive he would win with them his championship, all the best Jerry.

thats simply bulsh*t after 23 years in one team you may for real be burnout, but there are few organization good suited for Sloan in which he would be still successful

and that is stupid he decide to go when he new that there is no hope for that team, he new that ther is nothing he can do about it so he do what was the best in his eyes for the Jazz organization.

sloan runs the offense corbin the defense. two coaches why not lol.
