The Jazz don't need a point guard for Harris

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Sun Feb 5, 2012 7:14 am

To me, and I think everyone else, it's becoming abundantly clear that point guard by committee is working for this team. Watson has been fantastic, and every time Tinsley gets minutes he looks competent. With all of the rumors circulating about Harris everyone seems to think that he will be moved for another point guard, I don't think that's the case at all. Our primary concern has to be getting expiring contracts, then we can worry about whether or not we add another point guard. Really, Harris doesn't seem to need to be traded, but I think that it would be in our best interests to find a deal that either got his salary off the books, or a good fitting piece to our team.

We need draft picks or young talent not expirings. We have not had much success luring free agents.

We won't get a pick for Harris unless we're willing to move him for a net-negative (like Luke Walton+filler+pick). An expiring is the best we can hope for.

I say play Harris at shooting guard. Speedy, can handle the ball, gets to the line, can hit the open shot, solid defender.... cant pass. Why is he even considered a point guard? Just play him at the 2 spot.

Gordon and Alec are both going to be much better 2 guards than Harris.

Because he's 6'3 175 and would have his soul eaten by any SG with size.

Bjax is right. I'm not sure if I would mess with the mojo of what we are trying to do here. I like Watson with the 2nd unit. I would only move Harris if it was a clear net positive.

Trade harris and the gs pick for nash and something else. I'm usually aginst bringing in a old vet on a really young team. But nash actually makes sense the 2 or 3 years he could help this team develop the youngins and get them crazy confidence. Sure we lose the gs pick. But those years nash would give us would be invaluable in our player development.

If we move him it should be next year, when he is expiring and has some value. I wouldn't complain if we were able to send him out for an expiring contract, though.

Expiring and a 2nd round pick is fine by me

And there is some talk of moving Nash as well. If they would take that trade I say yes but they may want too much for him.

Nash is expiring this year. So not only do we give up the GS pick, but he most likely makes us good enough to lose our own pick as well, just to rent him for half a year. I'd rather keep the two picks and address the PG situation in the offseason. In the meantime, we keep playing Harris and hope he can improve his value by March 15. You never know what we may be able to pry away from another team by then, who might be in need of a PG for a playoff push.
