Derrick Favors has got to start playing harder.

Post#1 » by Jazzfan12 » Tue Feb 7, 2012 6:55 pm

I'm sick of him barely trying on defense. He should be dominating on D and yet he never tries to cut off ballhandlers driving to the basket and almost never tries to change their shots. His offense isn't good, but his defensive intensity is far more important with his development. Agree or disagree?

He's learning from Al Jefferson, what do you expect?

Favors has shown some good moves on offense occasionally, but I agree that it's his defense that can really make him an elite player. He seems too focused on the offensive end right now. He needs to focus on defending and rebounding like last season.

I agree. I've been souring on him just a little as the season has worn on. Of course, its waaaaay too early to feel that way, but I expected more. Even this early. Hopefully the light comes on sometime soon.

it would probably help him to get some easy offense. i mean when was the last time he had a dunk? totally bumming him out. put the guy in some pick and rolls.

He looks lazy on D, but the difference when he is in vs. when Al or Millsap is in is pretty clear.

Favors ability to challenge people at the rim is game changing.

He might have a little bit of a Kirilenko complex working though. Wants to be involved on offense to keep his mind in the game on defense.

I think he has all the talent in the world but I really question if he has the drive, the desire to be great. I don't think he really cares all that much.

He played harder tonight in the third and fourth, that's nice to see. Hopefully he can have intensity throughout the season.

Honestly, we may just need to give him the reigns.

He can obviously score the ball when he gets it down low, he needs to work on his skills with out turning it over or running over his man, but that will come.

I love he and Kanter together though, could be a dynamite defensively, and once Kanter really starts to hit that jumper that you can see he has the touch for, they will be very good on both sides of the floor.

I think you're on to it, Bat. I think Favors has the mindset of an alpha dog, and its hard for him to be anything less. I don't see him being a defensive specialist, or defense-first guy. I think he looks at himself as The Guy, and you might just have to let him be that in order to get the full deal out of him every night. At this point, I think you trade Al at the deadline and hand the starting center spot over to him. I was more skeptical about Millsap and Favors playing together in the frontcourt before the season, but now that we've seen how it works for long stretches, I have absolutely no reservations about DF's ability to hold that spot down. He's got the size and the bulk most nights, and you can see that he is in desperate need of the added responsibility. I don't think you're getting much more out of him as a reserve than we're getting. Some players just have to be front line guys to produce.

I'd really like to see what Favors can do if given 15-20 touches on offense.

I agree with him needing to hold the ball better, but we are giving him the ball mostly in the high post so the Jazz are not putting him where he is best.He needs to be closer to the hoop.

But C'mon, Deandre? I would feel confident that Favors would be better with CP3 throwing him lobs all day and Blake drawing doubles. Not to mention DJ is getting starter minutes while Favors plays behind Al/Sap and splits time with Kanter.

Should of said defensive wise like D Jordan is. Plus I put a wink which kinda means jk. Get with the times bro ;-)
