Jazz Pick Up DeMarre Carroll

Post#1 » by retiredcoach » Wed Feb 8, 2012 11:53 pm

The Jazz just picked up SF DeMarre Carroll who was let go by Denver.

Don't get excited. This guy was a late 1st round draft pick a couple of years ago that hasn't shown much. He makes less than $300K a year and probably won't see much if any playing time. He doesn't look like he has much of a future in the NBA other than as a 12th man.

In Utah, I expect he's one and done.

That's sort of a surprising move. I wonder why we'd even want him? If I remember right he played more power forward than anything in Memphis, so he's a bit of a tweener. This really only makes sense if one of our forwards went down or if we're making a trade. I'd rather see Kyle Weaver back.

He's cheap. $275K to sit on the bench in case Howard or CJ gets hurt.

Jazz may use Howard in a trade. Jazz can't resign Howard if he plays to the end of the season. Since his injury he hasn't been playing well so he's an expiring contract that could help a team. Miles has an expiring contract also.

Howard is about the best SF the Jazz could get this year.

Take it for what it's worth, but the following tweet was sent out by "Utah Jazz Employee":

"In regards to DeMarre Carroll signing...be patient Jazz fans, something (someone) else is on the horizon."

Let the rampant speculation begin...

Got an actual link for this, or will you at least say who it was?

Whether that's has any weight to it or not, It seems this signing only makes sense as part of a trade.

Given that the Jazz rarely carry more than the minimum number of required players, it seems very plausible that there's a forthcoming deal being made where the Jazz lose a body.

Also: my brother-in-law's cousin's friend saw Rajon Rondo at the SLC airport.

I'm not going to read anything into this, because I know better than that at this point, but it is an odd signing. We don't have any injuries right now and we've already got one wing (Burks) and one tweener forward (Evans) who aren't getting any minutes due to the depth that we have. It doesn't really seem like we need any more insurance, but oh well. I don't know anything about Carroll, but adding him most likely won't help us or hurt us. It could mean a trade's on the horizon, but it probably doesn't. We'll see. For now, I just wasted five minutes and quite a few words talking about a move that probably doesn't mean anything.

I also heard he was eating KFC and you all know where the first KFC was..........Salt Lake City, I think we might have just picked up Rondo.

Could this be why Burks has a couple of DNP-CD's the last couple of games?

My guess.

This doesn't affect any moves we make going forward.

I don't get this at all, unless we got a big trade planned. *crosses fingers*

He had pretty good hustle from what I saw in Memphis - also sucked, but that could have changed...a little bit.

Thanks. I work within the LHM organization as well and even though we hear a lot of things that most people may not, I don't think it gives us more of a heads up, really. Think this guy is just speculating.

Isn't he just on a 10 day contract? Not sure why they're burning money on this unless a trade is coming up..

Can you pick someone up just to turn around and use him as filler in a trade? Not sure if it is possible or not. But maybe we don't plan on keeping him.
