Everything I've read says that IF Shumpert can't make it then MAYBE Evans MIGHT. Let's not get too excited just yet. Remember, Evans was already screwed out of the competition once.

If he gets in, he should put everything into his first dunk. Th sad truth is, since his name isn't big enough, he won't get into the next round, regardless of his dunk. So let it shine on the first one.

Utah Jazz facebook:
'the dunk contest goes down this Saturday night in Orlando.
The Saturday night events start at 6:30pm (mountain standard time) on TNT. The dunk contest is usually the last event so probably will start around 7:30/8pm.
Evans will be replacing Shumpert (Knicks) who is currently sidelined with a knee injury. Evans will face Houston's Chase Budinger, Indiana's Paul George & Minnesota's Derrick Williams in the dunk contest.'

If so, then no wonder the dunk contest is crap every year. The league is giving Evans less than a week to get his dunks figured out?!

Been reading all day that it's confirmed and a done deal.
Favors is also into the rookie/sophomore game.

Nothing is official on Evans. Someone in the Jazz PR department jumped the gun.
Until it is official, I'm not setting the Tivo.

I said the PR department got ahead of itself, and for whatever reasons the video was taken down.
Hopefully, they were just early and not wrong.

Wow, I never thought they would have selected someone who never plays to be in the contest. Good to see another Jazz player in the All Star Weekend.

Was definitely bummed this weekend might be one of no jazz games and nothing to look forward to at ASG, now with Favors/Hayward in rising stars and POSSIBLY evans hittin the slam contest, I'm in.

Nothing I like more than watching a player without the skills to get on the floor during games participate in the all star weekend.

It's official Evans is in the SD. I'll set the Tivo now so I can skip the endless BS that goes with these things.
This is big for Jeremy. It will help him either stick in the NBA or get a better deal in Europe. Jeremy is a four college player, which means that what you see with him is what you get. He's going to be a minor minutes role player who can give fans a few bright moments with his blocks and dunks.
Be happy for this kid. He's a nice guy, and for him this is big.

I think he's probably a better in game dunker than highlight reel dunker.
He certainly has hops, but I'm not sure how big his hands are which makes tricky dunks far more difficult.

Just watched Chase Budinger's promotional video for the contest: Seriously might as well be Gordon Hayward in there. His dunks are the same if not worse.
