Jazz / Celtics Trade Idea

Boston;
In - Big Al, Hayward, 2012 #1, Future 1st, $10 Mill trade exemption
Out - Rondo, Ray, JO
Utah;
In - Rondo, Ray, JO
Out - Big Al, Hayward, 2012 #1, Future 1st
Utah gets their PG of the future. Ray Allen and JO help Utah make some noise in the playoffs this year and are off the books after the season saving them about 7 million.
Boston brings Big Al back home, gets younger and adds a pick in 2012 and another in the future.

I think Boston would want Millsap instead.

Possibly. If Millsap was the target CJ Miles would need to be added and the deal would work. Boston would save a little dough in this scenario.

Trade doesnt work bc cant add exception, but make it Jefferson plus Hayward plus Miles for Rondo and Allen then works. I doubt Jazz willing to add GSW pick or their pick this year but might add future #1. Real hard for the Jazz to gve up Hayward.
If I cant get Rondo any other way, then I do it. Trade exception cannot be added to the trade. I hope to then salary dump Harris on Portland or the Lakers for one of their picks as well.
Jazz lineup:
2011-2012: PG Rondo Watson Tinsley
SG Allen Bell (maybe trade him too) Burks
C Favors Kanter
PF Millsap Favors Evans
SF Howard Carroll

Why can't the exception be added to the trade? It works on ESPN's trade machine. Is this application not accurate?

I really want rondo but I rather replace Hayward in this trade for Burks. And getting rondo makes more sense if we keep Jefferson, imo. And exceptions can't be coupled with players in a trade and for salary reasons we would replace allen with Wilcox (or whoever)
Boston;
In - Millsap, Miles, Burks, 2012 #1, Future 1st
Out - Rondo, Wilcox
Utah;
In - Rondo, Wilcox
Out - Millsap, Miles, Burks, 2012 #1, Future 1st,

my understanding is trade exception can be used for one year to acquire a player but can only give other team picks not a player i.e. Jazz get Jefferson for this year protected pick by use of trade exception; Lakers trade Odom for pick with Mavs allowed to take him on bc of trade exception.
Jazz and Celtics are good trade partners if they are willing to trade Rondo.

Not sure if this is correct or not. If it is you would think ESPN would factor that into their system.

Not enough for Rondo. It would have to be both. 25 year old PG, Championship exp. Unorthodox game but with results. Stat lines like 32 pts, 15 assits, 12 rebounds.
When it comes down to it, Hayward is unproven talent, Draft is a crap-shoot. Boston needs to sell this deal to their fan-base.
Jefferson / Millsap are really just salary fillers in this deal.

Well to me, Burks is way more valuable to your team than Hayward. As I said before the draft, Burks could very well be Brandon Roy-esque in a couple of years on a team where he's allowed to dominate the ball. Without another good playmaker on the team, Hayward may very well be Mike dunleavy (which he's looking like it to me). But with Rondo, he will be extremely more valuable. So with that said, I would consider including Kanter or Favors although I would be hesitant to just give up a young big guy.
Boston;
In - Millsap, Miles, Burks, Kanter/Favors, Bell, 2012 #1
Out - Rondo, Allen, JJ Johnson, future first
Utah;
In - Rondo, Allen, JJ Johnson, future first
Out - Millsap, Miles, Burks, Kanter/Favors, Bell, 2012 #1

Jazz could just do the exception for Allen and then another trade, with Rondo coming in for Millsap and Hayward. I also would like to keep Burks if it came down to him or Hayward. I love Hayward but I think Burks may turn out better in the long run.
Maybe Boston would take Miles instead so they can free up more cap space for next yr. Then its a HUGE win for us
A starting lineup of:
Rondo
Burks
Hayward
Favors
Jefferson
Would be a playoff team for yrs to come. Not to mention that we would still have our own pick in the top 8-11 this yr. I say DO IT KOC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only problem is getting rid of Harris. WHO is going to take him???? We could be stuck with him for next yr as well. Wouldn't be a bad backup but would be WAY over paid...

Yep, price is too high for Rondo right now, and Utah is in no hurry to win this year.
We'll either find the right deal for Sap or Al, or we will wait until the offseason.
No hurry.

Two deals:
1. Ray Allen for $10M TPE and Utah 2013 1st round pick (w/ something like Top 7-10 protection on it)
Followed by:
2. Rondo, JO (or Wilcox, your choice), JJ Johnson and LAC 2012 #1 pick for Millsap, Hayward and GS 2012 1st round pick. I would take Burks instead of Hayward in the deal if you prefered.
You can start: Rondo/Ray/Howard/Jefferson/Kanter with JO/Wilcox, Favors, Miles, Burks, Harris, Bell, Watson off the bench and you'd still keep your own Top 14 protected 2012 1st round pick. It's certainly possible you'd improve enough to have to give up that pick to MIN, but you'd still have the LAC #1 pick to cover you in case you had to give up that pick. We'd be taking on the (smaller) risk that GS drops further in the standings or wins the ping pong lottery to keep their pick for another year.
Ray and JO/Wilcox would come off the books in the offseason, freeing up $13-16M while leaving you with a top PG. It's certainly a risk to give up 2 first round picks, esp the GS 2012 pick, but adding Rondo and Ray to your back court could really give teams trouble in the playoffs.
This would give us a low post scoring option in Millsap, a young SG/SF in Hayward (or Burks), a likely top 8-12 pick in the 2012 draft from GS, a $10M TPE and a 2013 1st round pick from Utah.
The C's can come back next year with a core of Hayward/Pierce/Millsap, with 2 top 15 picks in the upcoming draft (their own pick and GS), and another pick waiting for them in 2013, with a TON of cap space to target Deron Williams/Dwight Howard.

Ray Allen not worth losing a first. Plus we traded our 2012 choice, with protection. Until after the draft we will be unable to trade our 2013 pick.
