This is just a curious poster here.

But can someone break down Kanter as a player for me?

Always been a fan, and I've watched as much of him as i can.

And i know as much as you can after watching a few games of him.

But im sure there are more well versed Utah fans out here that can explain his game, potential and ceiling as a player?

Rebounding comes easy to him. He's not a specialist in other areas, but does very well defensively for a rookie, and offensively he doesn't really have many moves yet, but he gets a lot of tip ins. Looks like a good kid and he'll be a starter for years, too early to say what his ceiling will be.

He is the rebounding machine, perfect PnR defender and decent post up defender too at the age of 19. He was not playing basketball for one and half year until stepping on the court for the Jazz. In 14 min he is averaging 5 points and rebounds so he is automatically double double when minutes are given to him.

Wht's his ceiling? That question goes to Tyrone Corbin not Kanter. He just wanna him to be scrappy player who just goes for offensive rebounds. Kanter has exactly post up moves to score but how many times passers are ignoring him is just unbelievable. This last Dallas match he played 15 min and he just touched the ball on the offensive side two times, one offensive rebound and second one post up position.

So, i am not optimistic about his sophomore season too. No increased minutes, no defined roles except garbage baskets. May be after his second year, both side can talk about trades who knows

He's not getting 30 minutes as a rookie, so that means they'll be trading him next year? That's a bit silly.

The silly thing is not trading Big Al and use him just only offensive weapon regardless of the future of the team. Enes can not earn 30 min but 14 min for the 3rd pick is also weird. It is for sure he deserves more minutes whatever happens at the team. Another point is Tyrone Corbin's rotations. It is not even certain he controls it or a pc makes it. Even though back ups play well, he still insists on playing veterans.

Young fellas are our hopes and it is also obvious jazz will not have enough talent to make play offs. So wht is the logical point? Playing veterans averaging 35 min and going ahead being mediocre or increasing the minutes of rooks and sophomores slowly to adoptate them for the next year? For Tyrone, the answer is being mediocre and this is just silly.

It's easy to argue Kanter should get more minutes; it's not easy to argue that his current minutes necessitate trading him.

Tyrone Corbin killing his talent by using him as a defensive force, Kanters strength was his offensive game when he first comes to the league, just watch his games in the european championship, he can easily post up against top NBA centers, i've never seen a play for kanter in the Utah or they never give him the ball in the post, they simple dont want him to go one on one in the post except put backs or wide open buckets

He tends to get 2-3 post up possessions a game and for the most part struggles. He hasn't found a way to get his shot off near the basket with it getting it blocked, and his jumper hasn't been consistent enough to make it much of a threat. He'll figure it out eventually, but for now his defense and rebounding have shown that he has the potential to be a game changing starter in this league.

Not a big Corbin fan yet, but I think your wrong on this one. Very smart to develop a rookie big mans defense first, and then let the offense come to him overtime.

Even when a player is having a bad game offensively, they can still contribute defensively. There is a secondary benefit of avoiding getting into the players head and causing him to go backwards by expecting too much of him offensively. Developing strong defense and rebounding skills equals confidence.

Before his Jazz days, I mean playing in the Turkish league and lastly Eurobasket against national teams he was more of an offensive weapon. He was able to score many ways and shoot mid-range jumpers. He was not a good defender.

Now it's different. He is improving defensively. He already is a good 1-on-1 defender, can contain almost any big in the league. However, his team defense needs improvement. Sometimes he does not know what he is doing. Not a good rim protector at all.

As for his offensive game.. Before the season, I was expecting him to be more prolific to say the least. Now he is always shy, rarely trying jump shots and generally missing badly, having low FT%. I agree he desperately needs experience and the summer camp will help him so much but I disagree that his current unproductivity is about the lack of experience or talent, it's more like a mental struggle. I think he was warned by the coaching staff after having 2/15 FGs first two games and is not trying much since then.
