Draft Scenario
Three draft scenarios: Which would you choose? All assume we get the #8, and #13 picks.
#1 - Trade 8, 13 for 4 or 5 to pick up Harrison Barnes
#2- Trade 8, 13 for 4 or 5 to pick up Andre Drummond
#3- Keep 8 & 13 and pick up Damion Lilliard and Jeremy Lamb or other.
My preference:
#4- I would like #2 to get Drummond who is more athletic and has more upside and spaces out our cap situation a bit, and then send Kanter for another pick say 5 or 6 to pick up Barnes. If Barnes isn't the guy (even though I love him as a SF for us, w Hayward at the 2), the trade could be Kanter and #13 for #4 or #5 and Drummond and we pick up Lilliard at #8.
I like the idea of having Favors and Haryward coming up at one time, then Burks the next, then these two new guys the next. I also like the upside at Center with Drummond. By taking Drummond with a swap of Kanter it allows us to keep Millsap and Jefferson for all or most of next year because we don't have Kanter pushing into the line up as much. This way we can maximize Millsap or Jefferson's trade value during the summer if need be or at the trade deadline. Perhaps we find that Eric Gordon only gets $9M per year in the new NBA economy which would drive down the asking price of a certain OKC shooting guard. Wouldn't OKC like a deal of Millsap for Harden instead of losing him for nothing?
Thoughts.

Re: Draft Scenario
Harrison Barnes is going to be available at 8, there's no need to trade up into the top 5 for him. Andre Drummond is basically the softer, less skilled version of Favors so that's a terrible fit. If the Jazz trade up, it'll probably be for Beal or MKG, but I'm not sure they will.

Re: Draft Scenario
I would consider trading up for Beal but I likely stay where we are at except I would throw everything to get the #1 pick (assuming its the Bobcats)...8 and 13 pick plus Jeffersons expiring contract for the #1 pick and draft Davis. I think Davis with Favors up front with Hayward at SF and with Millsap and Kanter off the bench would make the Jazz front court (might need 2 years to develop) one of the best front courts in NBA history. That is how much I love Favors and Davis' games especially alongside a SF like Hayward who can handle the ball.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

yeah but who would score? maybe one of the best defensive front courts in the league, but I haven't seen much by way of low-post scoring from either Favors or Davis (haven't seen that many of Davis's games)

The team that gets the #1 pick isn't trading Davis.

Re: Draft Scenario
Option #3 easily.
Drummond and Barnes have bust written all over them. One of them will probably be available at the #8 spot anyways.

I don't think either Barnes or Drummond will bust and neither will be available at 8. Talent wins out ultimately.

Right, but Barnes didn't really demonstrate superior talent at UNC. He's a solid athlete and shooter, but lacks a standout ability and has bad ball handling skills. He might be projected best as a defender in the NBA and his defense wasn't that good at UNC.

Re: Draft Scenario
I didn't watch a ton of NCAA this past year, but what I did I have to agree with Echo 1 that Barnes and Drummond could both be bust players.
I am not sure if Lilliard would be a better choice over Marshall or Machado or even Wroten. I would, however, like to see the Jazz draft a PG to complete the young package and move in the draft accordingly.

Re: Draft Scenario
I like Lilliard... he has the second highest per in the NCAA. Last person to get overlooked that had a really high per was Ty Lawson at the point. Lilliard has opportunity to be better offensively and the Jazz will need that diversity of offensive production.

Re: Draft Scenario
The Jazz could certainly use a scorer from the perimeter, so if we end up with Lilliard I'd be happy.

Which is why Barnes will be there at 8. A post player may generate enough interest to be drafted too high.

Re: Draft Scenario
If we have both picks I'd rather just trade one away and draft Marshall with the other. Marshall is the biggest missing piece to this team. Trade the other pick for a solid three-point shooter and it's an A+ off-season for me. Oh, and maybe get some good return on Big Al.

Re: Draft Scenario
Jazz do not trade up for Barnes or Drummond.....they would want Gilcrest though. So would I.
#3 IS GREAT- take Lillard and Lamb....two good young guards is great!
I would take Barnes at #8.....he will be worth it due to his shooting and size at the 3.

Draft Scenario
#3-ish. Lilliard and Terrence Jones at 13. We need another young scorer to grow up with the bigs. I liked the toughness I saw in Jones and he is a good, skilled athlete.

Re: Draft Scenario
Ideally we make the playoffs and get the GSW pick. At 8 I think you either get a difference maker in this draft or give it back to the Warriors for several assets moving forward.
After being booed like he was, my guess is the Warriors owner is willing to salvage assets from the future to save some face today.

Re: Draft Scenario
Someone mentioned going after MKG. I don't know about anyone else but he seems to me to be all motor and little skill. I think he could be good, but not all star good. He could be the next corey brewer, or andre iguodala. I don't know that anyone in this draft is sure fire either. Even Davis scares me a little what with what heppened to Odom who actually had a pro body. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that when he bangs with NBA bigs he breaks.

Re: Draft Scenario
Seems like Tier II in this draft is pretty deep. Outside of Davis I expect that top ten on mock drafts to fluctuate quite a bit.
With that in mind, if they get two picks, Jazz should keep both and draft BPA at both spots.

Re: Draft Scenario
I'd be hoping for Marshall and Beal. That would be a nice draft scenario. I'm not at all sold on Lilliard, especially after watching him play in Pocatello.

Re: Draft Scenario
Beal seems like a can't miss guy to me. He has Eric Gordon written all over him from what I've seen. He'd be ideal.
