I wouldn't give it up either. This team has a lot of history with the Jazz name and while the name doesn't fit whatever they'd come up with would be undoubtedly worse.

No amount of compensation is enough for the Jazz brand.

The franchise should have changed its name back in 1979 when it moved to Salt Lake City. Yet it didn't and now it's way too late to change.

Even if the Jazz name doesn't make sense when associated to Utah, 33 years are more than long enough to make it sound right, to the point that it's actually the only name that does. Utah Jazz. Rolls off the tongue now, doesn't it?

If he wants the "Jazz" he can give us the "Saints" a win-win

But no, I wouldn't be willing to give it up. Way too much history behind it. I don't think that a team has ever "given back" a team name before in any professional sporting league... it would have to be a first.

What does he mean they'll be pressuring the league to "do something"? What a weird thing to say. Stern can't make the Jazz give their name to the Hornets, can he?

Except the "Utah Jazz" have 33 years of history including two HoF players forever associated with the name, an HoF coach, one of the best winning percentages in the league through much of that time, two Finals appearances and a handful of Division titles whereas the "New Orleans Jazz" has 5 years of one notable player in Pete Maravich....

Jazz is no longer JUST a style of music. It's also a 3+ decade-old franchise in the state of Utah.
