Morris Almond to Wiz

Post#1 » by HolyToledo » Mon Apr 16, 2012 8:59 pm

Former Utah Jazz #1 pick Morris Almond signed with the Wizards today. He has been scoring alot of in the D-League. I didnt know he was even still playing. Didnt he have some mental issues or was it something else? I remember being quite high on his outside shooting only to being very disapoointed.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

LOL at Kanter fans mad about minutes, look at Morris Almond jazz stint - he rarely saw action even though he was a 1st rounder that was already a proven scorer in the college game. the biggest problem is that being a one-dimensional dominant force in the college game can mean very little for players at the next level. Look at Adam Morrison. Almond fits that mold.

Morris Almond is probably a perfect case study for how going to the right situation can sometimes make or break your success in the league.

Consider that at our wing positions we had: AK, Harpring, Giricek then Korver, Ronnie Brewer, and they had just decided to match the CJ Miles offer sheet from OKC... thats 5 guys ahead of you on the depth chart... in a Sloan program when 3 of those 5 are Sloan type guys who are defensive hard nose players that is a recipe for never seeing the floor. Also consider that Sloan was also in love with the 2 PG line up and used Deron as a SG much of the time... Morris Almond never had a chance.

Once you are a player that is discarded after only two years you are doomed to be labeled a failure and most teams won't touch you. I would love to see the guy finally get some burn because I think he has the skills to have a spot in this league.

I hope to see him succeed.

Almond will be another Gerald Green. He wasn't ready mentally or physically his first time on an NBA team. He is ready now. Almond improved his shooting A LOT in the D-League and in Europe. He defends and rebounds better.

The questions are will Morris not only hit shots with the Wizards, but also will he play better on the defensive end? I have a feeling the answer will be a resounding YES.

IMO he will not only stick with the Wizards but Morris Almond is going to have a decent NBA career just like how many thought 4-5 years ago.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

He lights it up in the D League. I went to a Flash game where he was on fire and hit everything he threw at the hoop. He scored something around 40 points that night and they still lost because he wouldn't play any defense on his end.

He scores at will in the D League but struggles to do so in the NBA. He couldn't even get his shot off in scrub minutes at the end of the game when he was playing for the Jazz.

I know he was buried behind all those wing players that we had but how do you explain that he couldn't get a roster spot with the Knicks? He had a chance with another team too but I don't remember with whom though.

Me. and apparently a few others. This board has been pretty dead since our playoff hopes went to crap anyways.

Sadly, I kind of see Burks in the same light as Mo Almond, but Burks seems to be more aggressive. Hopefully he isn't a bust like Almond was.

Almond has failed to stick with any NBA team so far so it is a tough sell to say his issue was that he was on the Jazz team--but that he was unable to do what it took to move up the depth chart and win playing time.

Jimmer could be the next greatest example
