No draft picks..

Post#1 » by LongLiveIverson » Sat Apr 21, 2012 7:38 pm

Assuming GS continues tanking and the Jazz get into the playoffs would you be interested in this deal..Jrue Holiday, Nikola Vucevic, Sixers first for Derrick Favors. Jrue is better than any pg you can get in the draft, and Vucevic is putting up similar numbers to Kanter. Obviously he doesnt have that type of upside but he would fit in great with your bangers down low with his ability to stretch the floor. At 15 you can target a guard or forward like Terrence Jones, Dion Waiters, Perry Jones. Or possibly use it to trade up for a shooter like Beal or Barnes by moving another expandable piece like Milsap.

This gets an immediate "no" from me. Favors has star potential, and that's not nearly enough for him, in my personal opinion.

Nope.

I am 100% confident in our GM.

Kevin O'Connor has said himself that if we end up with no picks, we have other means of obtaining one, ie trades, etc. He'll make something happen, and whatever happens, is best for the team.

All hail KO'C.

Favors is just too valuable. 8th youngest player in the league right now and we are confident he becomes a top five defensive player in the league.

Easy no. The deal has to knock our socks off. This doesn't do it at all.

Favors was the centerpiece of the Deron trade, that should tell you how highly the Jazz think of him. It just so happens we got Kanter in the lotto, and Harris has been able to provide some decent play, but those things were just unknown extras in the move.

If any sort of Favors trade were to happen it would be part of a package for a single better player, not just him for a couple lesser players. That's how trading for guys on the upswing works. Known for several unknowns. The ceiling is still unknown.

I see your Holiday, Vucevic, and first rounder for Favors proposal, and raise you raja bell, josh howard, and a 2016 2nd rounder for Evan Turner.

Too much. 2nd rounder should have top 40 protection.

I don;t blame him for coming with a bad trade for Favors. His numbers scream bust. It's just not the case really. He should have a Bynum like career trajectory.

I would counter with this:

Philly:
Iggy
Young
Pick

Utah:
Harris
Favors
Bell
Watson

This is just a starting point but this would instantly give us two of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA in addition to more veterans. I rather do this than hope Favors turns out like Bynum and instead he becomes Tyrus Thomas which is a high possibility, a great trade off to me. All that is left after that is either draft Marshall and mabey beg Ray allen to come here or draft terrance ross and beg Dragic to come here; or something equally as good. We would be a scary team imo.

If you did something like Iggy, Young, Vucevic and a first for Favors, Harris, Bell, Watson and Carroll
sign a vet like Goran Dragic if you dont stay in the draft or Andre Miller in his old stomping grounds to mentor a rookie.

C. Al Jefferson/Nikola Vucevic
F. Paul Milsap/Enes Kanter
F. Andre Iguodala/Thad Young
G. Gordan Hayward/Alec Burks
G. Damian Lillard/Andre Miller

Thats a scary team. Probably top 3 in the West easy. Thunder and Clippers being the only clear cut team putting out better players than that. Spurs and Lakers are gonna be another year older this is the time for a team in the west to make a push

I think a few here arent giving enough credence to the degree of difficulty involved in finding a fully developed guy like Favors.

There are only a handful of them in the league at any time. If we had had him with Boozer and Okur, I think we would have had a legit shot at winning it all. You're not gonna waltz in and get a guy like that for a 3rd tier PG and a few spare parts. It doesn't matter how much of a chance there is that he doesnt pan out. He's a guy that could be a defensive anchor for a decade, at the very least. You dont take chances with that unless you are getting a proven star in return.

I love Jrue, but no thanks.

I think just about every single trade i've seen involving Favors has been absolutely awful for the jazz. thanks but no thanks.

Sixers fan here. I was about to start a thread like this but it doesn't surprise me one exists.
Unlike the rest of of our fanbase I'm not blind to the obvious issue of being stuck in NBA purgatory. In addition, I realize Favors is valued very highly. This is what I was thinking of offering even before I saw this thread.

Iggy, Jrue, 2012 1st. For Favors, Raja, Earl Watson

We're just not trading favors unless its for a perennial all-star (and even then we might not because they can leave in free agency). We can't get players of his defensive caliber and all-around skill any other way besides the draft, and chances are we won't have any more top 5 picks. He might be the most naturally gifted player the Jazz have ever had. Wing players and PGs are a dime a dozen by comparison.

Your offer is at least sensible compared to the OP, but no thanks, we'll keep him.

C's fan here. Since your so high on Favors and Kanter needs more minutes going forward what's the chances you trade Jefferson or Millsap this offseason? Any chances Ray Allen and 2 late 1st (Bos and LAC) pry one away?

Thanks for the reply.

And to the C's fan, like I said, I'm a Sixers fan, but here's what's throwing me...

Isn't Ray Allen expiring?

Also, I can see Jefferson, but you'd be willing to part with 2 1st rounders in a deep draft (on controlled salaries for 4 years, which is even more crucial with the new CBA) for Millsap?

Either way, Jefferson and Millsap have one more year each IIRC. I imagine you'd want to start to rebuild in some capacity starting this offseason anyway.
