PTI says Nash should sign with Jazz

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Thu Apr 26, 2012 3:03 am

Mike Wilbon today said that Nash should sign with us:

I agree.

In the draft we should take a PG like Lilliard or Marshal and let him be mentored for 3 years under Nash.

I would offer Harris to Portland for their #7 or #11 pick and then we would have around $12-$14M under the cap to sign Nash.

It would make sense for Nash too... He gets to play with a young contending team instead of a selfish veteran team. He gets tons of credit for helping the Jazz.

I like it.

The risk is trading Harris before we could secure Nash.

Why would Portland do that deal?

I don't care how it happens or why we do it, we should just do it.

Love this idea.

Portland does this because Harris is still young and plays up tempo and would fit perfect with their team. And nothing they get in the draft is a guarantee of anything.

I assume they would definately do it at 11.

Why would steve nash come here as opposed to Indiana who is also young, way more ready to contend, and can give him way more money than the mid level which is all we can give him?

How do you figure if we have a few TPE?

I don't think the Jazz should go PG-centric.

All a TPE does is allow us to take on salary in trades. What bearing would it have here?

Let's just pretend.

GS loses their pick to Utah. Utah Trades Al and through a 3 team trade acquires Granger. Drafts Marshall.

Then KOC signs Nash to a 3 year deal or a sign/trade with Harris.

Somebody tell me how this sucks.

There is no way Portland would trade a first round pick for Devin Harris. Even they aren't that stupid.

I would not touch Danny Granger... he isn't efficient. If we go for an Al Jefferson trade the only guy I am really interested in would be Iggy or Josh Smith.

If we trade Harris for a pick it takes our salary down to around $44M which means if the Salary cap is at $58 again or goes up to $60M we have all the money we need to sign Steve Nash.

As far as Portland is concerned they have a quality team and aren't looking to rebuild and they need a good PG. Devin Harris has reestablished himself as a good PG in this league.

If we get the 8th pick in the draft, and they get the 6th and 11th. I could see them trading 6 & 11 for 8 and Devin Harris. Essentially giving us 2 spots and 11.

Here is the reality fellas....if you are a point guard in this league who wants to win and be the man, the Utah Jazz are a very, very hot destination for you.

If you are a prima donna and care about market, exposure, and fame...your options are very limited.

But when it comes to good basketball, Utah has all the pieces right now in place for a top point guard to come in and win immediately. Nash would be (Please Use More Appropriate Word) to not at least do some homework on us.....

I wonder how much Nash is hoping to get paid? I would be interested in Nash for sure, but it would have to be at the right price. For example, Grant Hill type of money.

I would do 3/$30M and preferably pay him $14 to $16 the first year and then less in the last two years when we need the money to reup guys.

Nash has already said he is looking for a 3 year 21m deal.

I'm not clear that the new CBA allows you to use one in a sign-and-trade. Whatever the case, I don't know that you want Steve Nash to be making more than the MLE when he's 40-41.

I say give him whatever he wants.... if we have to pay him $5M more to get him above that contract it is worth it.

This team needs leadership and easy baskets.
