The lockout was worth it to me, because the three biggest spenders (Mavericks, Knicks, Lakers) had to watch their payroll this year. I never realized why they were the top three teams on my "hate list" (although GSW is rapidly rising), but maybe it has always been because because of their arrogance and big budgets, which they use to buy their way to success on an uneven playing field.

Mark Cuban said the constraints of the CBA prevented him from re-signing Tyson Chandler, J.J. Barea, DeShawn Stevenson and Caron Butler.

"I've heard some of the talking headless (media), and all I can tell you is, within the collective bargaining agreement we did everything possible to put the best possible team on the court," he said. "Period. End of story. If someone wants to read it (the CBA) and tell me otherwise, go ahead."

With San Antonio and OKC playing so well, this looks like the year of the "small market teams".

The Mavs cut back on their spending to clear cap space for next year, it had nothing to do with the new CBA and they would have done the same thing in the old CBA.

I think the new CBA had plenty to do with the Mavs deciding not to resign some of their players to long term deals......

I don't see how at all. They wanted cap space for Deron and Dwight and they would have had to make the exact same decisions in the previous CBA for that to happen.

Even if the CBA had little to do with how the Mavs approached this season, I don't see how it can't impact the big spenders the next couple of years. The super elite will probably still get paid $15M-$20M per season, but everyone else should see a reduction in their salaries with their new contracts.

This helps the Jazz in that they might be able to afford Favors, Hayward, Burks, Kanter and supporting cast in the future.

I geuss you are calling Mark Cuban a liar, which is fine because he probably is, but in this case I tend to believe him.

Mark Cuban is lying. He's scapegoating the CBA to deflect criticism that he should have resigned chandler and given this unit another chance. He of all people isn't worried about the luxury tax, and he would have done the same thing under the old CBA because he knows he needs to sign a superstar in free agency.

CBA was HUGE this year! Just look at the Lakers. They were forced to move Odom for nothing simply because they couldn't afford him.

The new CBA is so harsh for spending over the Luxury Tax that even Cuban doesn't want to spend too much. Signing Chandler and Barea to longer deals would have sealed Dallas' destiny for the rest of the Dirk era because without being able to dish out $100 mil. in salary, Dallas wouldn't be able to adjust the roster moving forward.

Probably a little of both. A third factor was the reality show. My guess is that the Lakers (i.e., Kobe) hated it!

Looks like the Lakers are on their way to being swept. Hooray for the new CBA!
