Would you do 2013 GSW pick for Wesley Mathews?

I would wait until after lotto night at the end of this month, but we clearly need a player like Mathews and his contract would be half the size of Iggys.
If we go for Mathews instead of Iggy, then we use the extra money to sign Nash. Plus Mathews is a proven commodity in the Jazz system.

Alec Burks is going to be better than Matthews....... So, let him play instead of giving up an assett for a player we don't need.......

Matthews is an average player on an average contract. Lots of guys like that round no need to move a lotty pick for him now. Would I consider him coming back in a trade sure .Its not like 6 million a year is a great deal for Matthews, he is what we thought when we let him go. He just gets more shots in portland then he did in Utah as a rookie.

Is Matthews worth a lottery pick though?

It may not be a lotto pick next year.

Have you been drinking the Kool Aid all those Golden State fans left here?

No. We can find someone like him with late first round / 2nd round picks. We need size and length with the lottery at the 3 (who can shoot, i.e. not many late first round prospects) or a starting PG who can lead this team.

Wesley is a good player, but I'd rather take my chances on trying to get an All-Star (whether it pans out or not), and the only way that happens is the draft, and Wesley is no All-Star obviously.

If the Warriors get Frida then maybe. (PS Frida is Anthony Davis)

If we end up not getting the pick this year, I'd be jumping all over this deal.

I think I would've got it eventually, and would've enjoyed it more without the parentheses. But still, well done.

Me too. I would way rather have Mathews than a Kosta Koufas or Morris Almond type of pick.

no way, there's plenty of good sg in the league, and Wes contract isn't cheap: so, AT BEST his value is a 2nd round pick, but i still say no, just don't talk with the jailblazers, if they want to be fair they have to give back us something along with Wes to repair what they did with Sap and wes

No cause I think Wesley can be had for a trade exception and a late first rounder. They want to dump his overpaid salary.

Bringing in Matthews would seriously hurt our cap room next summer. I'm not sure he's worth the opportunity cost of a potential lotto pick AND free agent signing.
I do like Matthews, he was my favorite Jazz player while he was here, but, I think we just give Burks the reins and see what he can do instead.
Jazz pass, and see who they can draft and who they can sign instead.

While I don't fault Jazz fans for not wanting to give up what could be a good pick next season, this post is just stupid. The Blazers are not trying to dump Matthews. On top of that, he's not overpaid. And if the most the Blazers can get for him is a TPE and a late 1st, they will gladly hold onto him. Matthews is not on the block by any means. The Blazers are sending him to the lottery to represent the Blazers, and have said nothing but good things about Matthews and his future with the Blazers. Now, that's not to say that we wouldn't move him in a package deal that brought back an all star (i.e. with our 2 lotto picks). But as of now, Matthews is our starting SG, and after a slow start to the season, he finished playing very well. The second half of the season, he averaged 15 ppg and shot 41% from 3. What Matthews showed this season was that he struggled without a real PG next to him. Felton brought out the worst in Matthews. Going from playing with DWill and Andre Miller, to Raymond Felton, will hurt a SG who relies on his PG getting him the ball in the right spot. Hopefully next season, the Blazers won't have that problem.

Not sure that there are any all stars on the market, that Mathews and 2 lotto picks would be enough to attract.
Besides, why wouldmPortland want and all-star when they are clearly in rebuild. There would be zero depth to the team, even if they were successful in dealing for an all star to play with Aldridge.

wes has 3 more years in his contract, from 6.5 millions to more than 7; with the new CBA this is a good salary for an average SG; as i like him, his contract AT BEST reflects his value as a player, this means that if portland wants to trade him, they can't ask more than a 2nd round pick in addiction. Simple and plain. With 7 millions, u can find plenty of good SG in the FA market (
http://www.hoopsworld.com/2012-nba-free-agents ), no need to waste a 1st round pick. Sorry for wes, but arguably he'll be forced to stuck on a mediocre team for the next three years.

It's an average contract actually.
