Draft Trade Thoughts & KOC

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Fri Jun 15, 2012 5:07 am

I know KOC made the comment the other day that it is unlikely that the Jazz move up to get into this draft. If that is the case that is just stupid. If it is true that this draft is deep at positions of need for the Jazz (wing & pg), then it is crazy to sit it out.

The new CBA will reward teams that pick well. And since we know we will only be keeping one of either Millsap or Jefferson after this next year because we won't be able to afford both and because Favors will need to be starting.. You have to do one of two things: trade them for a pick in this draft or for a player this summer. My contention is that the Jazz won't compete for at least 3 years so trading for a wing player now doesn't help us in three years unless it is Eric Gordon. Going for the picks is a better long term solution:

I like Lillard, Barnes, Gillchrist, Drummond, Leonard, Ross, and Lamb in the top ten with a trade of Millsap or Jefferson. I like Moultrie, Royce White, Jeff Taylor, Marshall, Perry Jones, Marquis Teague, Tony Wroten, Moe Harkless, Festus Ezeli at #17-#30....

Dallas wants to secure as much cap space as possible and get rid of Odoms 2.5M buyout. The jazz simply send the tpe over to Dallas for Odom and then Dallas gives us the pick for small cash considerations. Dallas saves the salary cap hold of both the player and the pick.

Doing nothing and waiting for #47 is a waste. Heck I would buy in late in the draft for anyone of these players that might be slipping. Anyone of them could end up being the next: Danny Granger, Ty Lawson, Kenneth Faried, Josh Howard... ie.. guys that slip that end up being studs in the league.

With a draft this strong you have to make a play. Players drafted in the early 20's in this draft could be lottery picks in most years... You have to go for it. Next year we can look to be a seller... this year we have to be a buyer.

If we wait until Jefferson or Milsap walk because we want to make another playoff run as an #8 seed, and we don't get any asset to add to our team, while simultaneously slowing the growth of Kanter/Favors... I will freek!

Making the decision to trade Al or Paul for a good lottery pick now even if we have to throw in a protected first will make next year so much more interesting. We will get to see both the new addition develop, and get to see Kanter and Favors develop more rapidly. For me, I think our drop off next year is less if we send Paul out because Al is more consistent a scorer and I think Favors improves us more than Millsaps loss. I also think Al will be easier to resign. Plus Paul will garner more as a trade piece.

Paul/Jazz Protected 1st to Sac for #5, to Portland for #6, #8, #10/Ariza but not pick etc... as long as our player is their.

Do something bold for once Jazz.
