Sell the GSW NOW!

I have been posting for weeks that we need to do whatever we can to get into this draft and probably should have made the deal before now:
Why?
What happens to the value of our GSW pick if they get Luol Deng tomorrow for #7, or Iggy or some other decent SF? That is what worry's me. I think the pick still has perceived value because its still the Warriors but they are perceived as being a contender for a playoff spot in next years weaker draft.
I also think Millsap is our most tradeable piece and if in 1 year we won't have him or Al... choose now and make a move that sets us up longer term. Sure most fans would rather have Sap over Al.. I am in the minority (but its close) that Al is the better keep at this point because he has the size for the position and his defensive weakness is made up for with Favors elite defense. Also I think he wants to mentor and be a Jazz man forever... Millsap is a little aloof. I also think that Al will take lower than market rates to stay than will Sap.. and based on production that is favorable to a team to take the guy that produces more.
I would take on Sacramento's contract of Garcia or even John Salmons (whose last yaer is only guaranteed $1M) so we pay $15M for a #5 pick. Now we may be able to give up our own pick lottery protected if we take on that contract and give up Sap.
My prefered trade:
#5/Garcia for Sap & GSW
or
Hardest to swallow but i would still do: #5/Salmons for Sap & GSW or Utah protected.
My whole point is that in 1 and then in 2 years it may be that Sap and Al are completely gone because Favors and Kanter produce so well. The Garcia contract or Salmons contract is off the books for our reup summer etc. If that is the case we will look back and ask... why didn't we tak the chance on Barnes/Gillchrist/Lillard or Robinson who I think all have a chance of being at #5.
Do something KOC!

I'm starting to appreciate you, black. I find a high volume of your stuff to be off the wall, but it's always comprehensive and thought out and sparks discussion. Your "Alec Burks is a nice guy!" thread put me over the top.
Anyway, to address your suggestion here: what is Salmon's contract? 7.5 x 2? How about Garcia's? Neither are of much use to us, but if we were making the strategic decision to retain Al long-term, I could see #5 being a good way to get value out of Millsap. I also agree with the general premise that the GSW pick may end up having more worth as a trade piece.
Millsap would be a better fit for us than Al long-term, but I agree with your premise: Al wants his body buried in Utah 50 years from now, while Millsap doesn't seem to care as much whether he stays or goes. I also remember his "I don't know; maybe" response a few years ago when they said "will you demand a trade if you come off the bench next season?"
In the end, I'm ambivalent about this, but I don't think the deal would interest Sacramento. They could very well trade a top-5 pick, only for Millsap to walk... and even if he was locked up long-term, I don't think they'd do it.

I don't see the motivation for the Kings here. They give up a top 5 pick for a year rental on Millsap and a late teens pick in a "weaker" draft. If Millsap and Al didn't work, then there is little hope Millsap and Cousins will work. Trading with Toronto at 8, or Portland at 11 makes more sense. Would be interesting if Portland traded for Sap and then Jerry signed as coach.

And keep an eye on Houston. If all the moves don't equate to a big time player coming in, then they may just take a good hard look at Big Al.

That's my guess. They might get stalled out with where they're at now. If that happens, AJ is the logical move for both teams.

There were a lot of people who wanted to trade the NY pick every year, because they wanted something out it right away. If we had done that, we would have lost considerable value on it. Right now, the trade value of the GS pick just isn't high enough to justify getting impatient. If we have a chance at a making a deal to improve the team, then I'm fine with trading it, but I don't buy into the idea of dumping it because we're afraid of losing value. GS is still dependant opon the health of two guys who haven't had much luck in staying healthy. Not only that, but if they're not in playoff contention again, there's a good chance of them tanking again, which would put us in a great position for them to barely miss, like they almost did this year.
As for Millsap and Al, I actually agree that it might just be Al that we end up keeping. I'd prefer Millsap, but I'm not overly optimist about our ability to re-sign him at a decent value, while I think Al just might accept less money to be in a position where he feels wanted by management.

I'm not putting it past GS to **** us over but we should still keep the GS pick. Having two first rounders in 13' is huge, we could use those picks to trade up or trade for a all star type player or keep them, next draft will be good.

How valuable do you guys think the GSW pick which is #7 protected (again) in what should be a weaker draft? I mean the pick is still dependant on a franchise who has been inept to winning for a long time to actually do well which would scare me from taking this pick.
Also how valuable is Millsap who is a nice player but not even top 10 in his position and is on an expiring contract (no guarentee he will resign with the team that trades for him). I mean he plays hard alot of the time but in the high pressure moments we needed him, he dissapeared.
So yes I believe we should trade the pick and Millsap but even combined they likely won't get you a top 10 pick especially now that Billy king no longer has a pick. Al on the other hand could fetch you a high lottery pick even though he's a expiring contract also but I still would be cautious about trading him.

There is no way a team would trade a top 10 pick in a deal with Al as the centerpiece. I don't even think he fetches a top 20 this year.
I understand you like him, but everything that I have read has indicated that the Jazz have not been able to get a team to bite on a Al for a mid first rounder in this years draft.

maybe you are right i dont know, but some peps on this forum should understand that Al i top 5 center in NBA right now and his value is/should be quite high, you are trying to tell me that some/most GM think he may not be worthed pick in mid 1 rd? i simply dont believe that.
But back to the main them, O'Connor have great chance to make this team very good and really deep, we just have to get this #5 from Kings, i would be delighted if that would came in package with Jimmer, duo Fredette and Lillard is my ultimate dream
