Jazz Re-sign Evans

I think this means one of Al/Millsap is gone. Not that Evans can replace their production, but having a rotation of Evans/Jefferson/Millsap/Kanter/Favors eating that much salary doesn't make much sense.

Hard to be disappointed about this. Such a good kid, and a great energy guy I have waiting in the wings when the regular rotation is half-assign it or coming up empty.

I don't think that the resigning of Evans means anything in regards to Paul's\Al's future with the Jazz.

5.5M for 3 years is 1.8M a year which is negligible in a context of an NBA team's payroll. I think the Jazz are still intrigued by Evans and by what they think he can become. Now that he has some security and knows he is going to be with the Jazz for the next 3 years, perhaps he will be more willing to commit himself to a specific position, be it the 3 or the 4. Maybe until now he was afraid to do so because he feared for his job and place in the league if the tried to become strictly a 3 or a 4 and failed.

Regardless, he has no influence on the future of Paul and Al (my opinion only). The Jazz just locked in a player they like as a locker room\glue guy who they know what they get from him when he is on the court, which is energy and the occasional block\dunk. When he does score, he is efficient, and there is still upside there, so why not spend such a low amount for a guy and have him for 3 years?

I am okay that he is coming back but you don't pay your 13th man more than the league minimum and not more than 2 years. If the 3rd year is a team option, fine... but the deal should be $1M, $1.2M, option for $1.3.... contract total $3.5M is the max I would pay him.

It's a small enough contract that he could easily be traded, or bought out in the final year.

You're really going to find a way to complain about them giving Jeremy Evans two million dollars more than you think he should get? You think 13th man salaries matter THAT much? And this is two million more over THREE YEARS, not even in one year. You're talking 700k in cap space. Do you hate Jeremy Evans? I'm personally overjoyed they signed him long term, I think he can be a rotation player. He's a killer on the fast break (runs like a deer and can jump over anyone, yeah I think he will finish some 2 on 1s if he sees the floor).

And who knows, perhaps Al or Paul is getting moved, maybe he will suddenly be a cheap 10th man instead of a 13th soon.

Hate is a strong word. I like Jeremy Evans but he has proven to be nothing more than scrap minutes entertainer. I would rather sign Fesenko for $1M because push come to shove he can clog the lane for 10 minutes a night against the bigs of LA and others. Or Michael Gladness from the GSW's who actually has an NBA body and almost any other player who has an NBA body or resume. Michael Redd for 1yr/$1.5 is better too. Their are a ton of players who bring more and will cost less and actually see the court for the Jazz at less of a cost.

I am not interested in paying to keep friends around if they can't contribute... .and yes for that money there are much better options out there.

The reality of this deal it seems is that he has the same agent (I think) as Mo Williams so there may have been a quid pro quo.

I think this contract shows that the Jazz think that in 3 years there is a chance that Evans could be more than a 13th man, which will make his contract to be even better in a cost-return context.

So did KOC piss in your cheerios or Greg Miller kill your dog or something? You just can't say anything good about any of the moves the Jazz make, can you? Which is odd...because we have been one of the best teams in the league over the last two and a half decades (and likely THE best not to win a championship...meaning better than ~20-25 teams). That track record speaks for itself.

I love it. Really, Evans is my favorite Jazz-man because of how humble he is. You think Fesenko gives you more than this kid off the bench, give me a damn break... The alley oops really work up the crowd and the other players, and he can get some spectacular blocks that do the same. He deserves a chance in this league, and I'm glad the Jazz are willing to give him some more time. At the very worst, he is nothing more than what he is so far, and he is trade fodder. Less than 2m a year, that is a good risk to take.

If Evans is anything besides the 12th best player on the roster then the Jazz aren't in very good shape.

Gotta say I agree with this more than I disagree with it.

You guys are giving him grief over a $2M difference, but those little differences and extra years add up. If you overpay each player by $2-3M you're looking at $25-40M.

Uhhhh... Michael Redd would cost more than 1.5 mill AND probably see less floor time than Evans. Unless wearing street clothes and sitting behind the bench counts as seeing the floor.

I'd be willing to bet there are more than enough teams in the league willing to have a young energetic guy like Jeremy at that price. This is better than letting him walk and finding out later he was better than we thought, and if he isn't, it's still not the end of the world.

I guess you would have rather paid CJ another 6-8M/year. This is a good contract to see what he is going to become. I know the Jazz want to be mmore athletic, and fast. He gives you both. I thought he played pretty well last year when he had the chance. Played under controll and really played hard on defense. He shot the ball well, and rebounded good. If he developes some range on his shot and can open the floor, he could really help the team.

Wouldn't be at all surprised to end up hearing that only the first two years are guaranteed at around a million and a half each, with the third year being a team option of two and half mil.

But it's hard not to be thrilled for this kid.
