Paul Millsap for Ryan Anderson... Almost?

Brian T. Smith is reporting that the Jazz nearly dealt Millsap to Orlando for Ryan Anderson. Just curious on everyone's opinion. Is that the best deal we could've gotten for Millsap, or can the Jazz get more?

I saw that report and it seems clear it was likely Millsap but Orlando preferred Ayon. He would have fit well as a stretch PF though it would have made Favors a permanent Center. Big Al would have had to leave as well. I would have liked that deal.

That would've been sweet.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Anderson signed for 8.5 million per year... I don't think the Jazz see themselves paying Millsap more than that but they know Sap isn't signing for that much; he wants more.

I think Millsap will be the better player over the life of Anderson's contract.

I don't see it as simply who will be better, but rather would Anderson be better than whomever, if anything, we get for Millsap.

Ryan Anderson is one of the best offensive players in the league. I would have gone for it provided we got a little extra.

Anderson would have been a great fit next to Favors and Enes. Al? Not so much (on defense), but their offense would have been a thing of beauty.

Seriously guys? Anderson shooting alone would have drastically improved the team.

I don't get you peoples thinking sometimes...

I am a fan of both the Magic and the Jazz, so hopefully, I'm qualified to speak on this. Anderson hustles out there and is great at getting the offensive board or hitting the open 3, but unless he has a dominate center to keep the pressure off him, he is useless on the court. Or, if even a decent defender stays out in him all game, his production goes way south. Millsap is a guy that does a little bit of everything, and a guy that could be the third vest player on a championship team with all of the intangibles that he brings. Millsap is a much, much better player, and Utah should be grateful that this trade didn't go down.

Millsap is better, but we don't know what the deal looked like. If it was a 1-for-1 deal, then the Jazz would have gotten the short end of the stick. Still, I like the move and the idea of pairing Anderson with Favors and Kanter. He is a poor defender, but next to those two we could cover for him and let him do his thing without hurting us on the other end too much. If we could have gotten another asset out of it and locked him up for ~8m a season over 4 years, that's not a bad move. Millsap could potentially get a 10m+ deal in FA and if I have to choose Millsap for 11m and Anderson for 8.5 I'm taking Anderson, especially within the context of our current team.

But, yes, Millsap is the better player by a decent margin.
