Big Al for Noah? (Rumor)

Post#1 » by RookieJazz » Thu Aug 23, 2012 2:10 am

Hi Guys!
New Rumor. A Turkish Twitter (http://twitter.com/nbatrky) is reporting some trade talks between Chicago and Jazz involving a swap: Big Al for Joakim Noah.

Also sports.gather.com is suggesting this as possible deal, but not a rumor...

Thoughts?

That trade would be beyond abysmal for the Bulls. They'd be trading away their defensive anchor and emotional leader for a decidedly below average defensive player who'd be a terrible fit with their MVP and their flex offense (honestly, we've already seen what happens when Al plays in a flex offense alongside an all-star point guard who thrives in the pick-and-roll). That's not even to mention how poorly Al fits in to their defensive minded culture (I know they signed Boozer, but he's at least capable of making rotations and guarding pick-and-rolls when he decides to).

It would create the dream pairing every defensive-minded coach dreams of: Boozer and Al Jefferson.

Jazz take this deal and run with it..take a hit offensively...defensively it would be a great move..

the contract is not great but if Chicago is thinking about joining the club of pairing up rose with another mega star for 2013 this is one way to do it...only 1 year rental and then they can get cap space or try and keep Al.

Could also turn our team into a passing team again.. I'm ok with Jefferson staying for the remainder of his contract but for this? Not a bad idea.. (if true)

I guess I hadn't thought of the expiring contract angle, but I still can't imagine Chicago would do this deal. The idea of an Al/Boozer pairing on defense would definitely be hilarious, though.

I'd do it for Taj Gibson even. For noah, I'd toss in some picks too. Trade kanter for a wing or PG, and you got yourself a stew goin.

Oz
Homicide: Life on the street
The Wire
The Shield
The Supranos
Six Feet Under
Breaking Bad
Everything Joss Whedon ever touched :D

and much more

No offense to Arrested Development (which is a different genre entirely, but still), but it is not even close to being the greatest.

Unless the Bulls can find a taker for Boozer I don't see this happening.

One of the best comedies of all time, clearly imo. I think the wire is the GOAT, but different genres.

On topic, this rumor has absolutely no credibility. The Jazz are uber-secretive, and if anyone is gonna find out what they're talking about, it's not gonna be some random turkish sports writer. The only thing in favor of it's credulity would be it is consistent with the bulls strategy this offseason of ruining their team.

I've been led to believe that random Turks know more about the Jazz than anyone else.

Even if it were true, I'm not sure I'd be sold on the idea.

Noah, in my opinion, is the floor of Favors. A little taller, but less bulk, than Favors and more of a defensive CF tweener than a scorer. That is what I've seen of Favors so far. Neither is very good offensively. However, Favors has the potential to be better offensively, and thus a better overall player than Noah, in my opinion. Right now, Favors (and the team) still needs a offensive threat in the paint.

I tried to watch AD recently and was delighted when I saw that it had a format that was similar to scrubs. The problem was that unlike scrubs, the jokes constantly failed and seemed to only be geared to people with certain taste while scrubs jokes were more "universal". It kinda like when people say how funny they thought "old school" was and I was confused trying to figure out if it was a comedy or not.

As for the trade, horrible for both sides. Boozer and Al? Noah and Favors? Talk about a nightmare and a bad pairing. All though at least we got Millsap, bulls only have gibson.

This is an insanely bad deal for Chicago.....and conversely an insanely good one for us. You don't squabble over fit or need or anything here, you take the best player in the deal and run. Noah is also locked up for awhile on a very reasonable contract. Now you have a lot of flexibility in the trade market and could turn and flip one or two of the 4 bigs and realistically shoot for a star perimeter player in return. If we had Noah, I would be fine with trading Favors in a package for, say, James Harden, Stephen Curry, MKG, John Wall (not as crazy as you might think) or Paul George.

Still. Its probably crap.

That's insane. We'd have an elite defensive frontline, and Noah is 10x more valuable than Big Al around the league (only being slightly hyperbolic). We can't keep thinking "build a great offense, hope the defense comes together" and expect to be a contender. That's the boozer-okur era in a nutshell, and it doesn't get you far. We're not gonna find a great post-threat to complement favors AND someone who is great at defense. Those players are just too valuable (KG, Dwight, who else?) for us to get given our assets. You build an elite defense first, offense is 1000x easier to add later on. We can't obsess about our offense and expect to be a contender. Defense-first.

Having said that, this rumor is complete trash. Makes zero sense for chicago.

Truth! Though I happen to think that 80% of a team's defense comes from coaching and teaching. In that regard I think we'd be screwed even if we had Noah.
