Scott Machado signs with Rockets

The Rockets signed Scott Machado before training camp opens.
I had him as a likely second round draft pick for the Jazz. I think the Jazz are going to regret not signing him as a free agent after the draft.

I really was expecting Utah to pick him up at 47.

Sure enough, RC called this a month ago. I honestly hate this! Takes the Jazz off-season from a B+ to a C, for me. I have faith in the Jazz FO, but this seems like a total miss to me. Scott Machado oozes Jazz. Ugh... I feel like my girlfriend just cheated on me... with the entire city of Houston. Really, really disappointing.

I feel about how I felt when the Jazz failed to re-sign Corey Crowder.

Kevin murphy >>>> Earl Watson 2.0
Dought he's more than a decent backup which is nothing to lose sleep over

i like machado... however Utah needed more a sg than a pg, ant they saw upside in murphy.
Anyway, neither Scott (Mo, Tinsley, Watson, and even Burks, foye), nor kevin (Foye, Burks, Hayward) would have find playing time. NBDL..........

I think you mean Doubt. It was surprising to see Machado go un-drafted.

I recall the Jazz bringing him in for a look, and a statement to the effect that they saw things about him that they didn't realize before. When he wasn't drafted in the 2nd round by the Jazz, I interpreted that as meaning he couldn't dribble with his left hand or had some other glaring weakness. Then, go figure, he did pretty well during the summer league (he had 10 assists one game).
Some players don't fit the expected physical mold but do really well in real game situations (such as Kurt Warner or Drew Brees). Machado could be that guy.
Watson will struggle coming off the knee surgery and both he and Tinsley are at the very tail end of their careers. Foye and Burks are SGs, not PGs (even if they play a few minutes there and we would like them to be). The eggs are all in Mo's basket, giving him a lot of leverage next summer. This could be another case of the one that got away (which would be ironic as Mo was one of those).

First we lose Ahearn and now this. I don't even know why I give my heart to this team.

DRudd, I understand your frustration. Ahearn was big and now reapaman says Kanter is no good--then Machado.
Watson and Tinsley don't have a long term future anymore. Neither is going to be a starting PG, so I hoped the Jazz would pickup Machado and give him a chance to develop into the 2nd or starting PG in the next couple of years. The price for him was cheaper than either Watson or Tinsley. Essentially that's Houston's strategy.

I expect Machado will be available almost any off season. Just because he is likely to have a place in the league doesn't mean he will be all that great. I bet Keith McLeod looked fantastic compared to other undrafted rookies.

Well, we probably won't know for awhile. Houston has publicly said they think Machado could be a starting PG in 3 years. Maybe.
The bottom line to my post is the Jazz don't have any young up and coming PG's in the pipeline. It's unlikely they will get a high draft pick again in the near future so they aren't likely to be drafting any high profile PG's. Anyone they get will likely be middle to late first round and a 3 or 4 year long project to become a starter if they get lucky. My basic view is that between Tinsley and Watson one of those spots should have gone to a young PG with potential.

Thanks Jeff. The die-hards will love this.
It's a long way to next year's draft.

I can't believe the Jazz didn't get him. This will keep me up at night. No it won't.

She asked me if I knew how big hi jock strap is....and I said I don't know.
She said " ALARGEaOne "
Machado appeared like a good 2nd round pick.

) so we can start follow some players.... right now they're at best lottery bound, cj mcollum intrigues me... but as u said it's a long way.
p.s. indiana seems like former Jazz pg, after ahearn they signed yata. Maybe next year they'll welcome back tisnley or sign watson.
