It was a little better than last years scrimmage everyone was a bit more competitive. I didn't see enough Defensivly from this scrimmage did see some pick and roll situation still weak on kicking the ball out from the bigs but they did pass a bit more.
Kanter was active but did pick up 6 fouls in two quarters. Seems quicker running the court got some good dunks.
Burks played point the second half. Seems to play his game as usual.
Hayward seemed to have bulked up a bit and it shows when he attacks the basket. His shots looked good from deep and mid.
Foyd was solid showed some range and good penetration.
Evans didnt stand out much.
Favors seems to have improved his touch around the basket.
Impressed with the new rookie murphy hit some clutch shots a buzzer three and a few others. Definetly a good shooter. He does hog the ball a bit needs to learn to pass out. His three point at the buzzer was good but was a bad shot considering he had two guy on him.
sap only played a couple of mins but he didnt hesitate to take the three so im incline to say hes improving his range.
Would have liked to see mo will and Jefferson play but both sat out.
Biggest thing that bother me was 30+ point quarters I know its a scrimmage but that's too much. Our defense needs to bolster up a great deal or we will get eaten alive against the better teams.
Offense had better ball movements even some design plays for threes.

Offense: Looked a bit more dynamic than last years. Lots more looks for the perimeter players and some folds have been added to some of our usually sets. My favorite new option was when they ran two guys (Marvin and Foye) off the baseline screen. Marvin came up to the elbow three while Foye popped out to the corner. Ended up giving a nice corner 3 look to Foye a couple times.

Defense: It was defense... not much else to say.

Players...

Favors: Looked great. Had some very nice "and 1" finishes around the basket. His jumpshot looks much improved and he shoots it with confidence. Defense is still great. Seems like his whole game is much more under control. Free throws looked better too. I expect big things from him this year.

Hayward: Looked fantastic. His body has continued to mature and build. He can do everything... had some great looking mid-range shots and a couple really good finishes at the rim. He has a great understanding of the game and he's got such dynamic abilities... also expect a big year from him.

Kanter: Where do I start... first off, he's MUCH more confident and comfortable with himself than he was last year. Seemed almost like a totally different person out there... was having tons of fun and was just relaxed... it translated well over into his game. He looks MUCH more comfortable on the floor. Looked to shoot some mid-range shots (with confidence) and looked like he had a much better grasp on the game as a whole. Physically, the guy is a monster. Just wait till you see his shoulders. They are Dwight-esque. Ran the floor extremely well and looks like he's gained that much needed explosiveness that we've been saying he needed. I don't think he's there mentally yet though... he's confident and comfortable but he doesn't have that killer attitude yet. He hasn't realized just how good he can be yet. He still needs to work on his defense. He got beat off the dribble a couple times and he seemed to give up on a play or two once he felt he had been beat. I expect a pretty up and down year from him with really good highs and really bad lows.

Burks: I was pretty disappointed with Burks tonight. Really didn't seem to factor into the game much. They ran him at PG in the second half, and I really liked that look for him. I think playing him at some backup PG would be great for the team and for him as a player. Needs to be more assertive though... another guy I expect to have an up and down year from.

Murphy: The kid can shoot. Looked good shooting the ball every time he got an open look. I think he's still adjusting to not being "the guy" but he's having a much better adjustment than most in that situation would. Fits in with the offense well enough most of the time but can get caught trying to take guys off the dribble too much. His lack of elite level explosiveness and a bigger frame will make it hard for him to compete against most guys in the league. Not sure how well he can defend either. Going to be interesting to see if he gets any burn throughout the season.

Foye: Can shoot, can attack the rim, can setup the offense. Foye is going to help this team a lot. He's a dynamic player that will fit great alongside any of the guys he's playing with. He plays hard and he's in the right spots and runs things the right way.

Marvin: Really liked watching him play. Clearly a guy that's been around the NBA block... he's a veteran for sure. Knows all the little things about the game. He made Hayward work pretty hard on the defensive end... he can hurt you in a lot of different ways because of his size, shooting ability and understanding of the game. He's going to be MUCH better than CJ or Josh ever was for us last year.... he's going to be big for this team as a glue guy.

Tinsley: Tinsley was Tinsley... pretty much the same player we saw last year from what I could tell. Can run the offense, play some good defense but other than that... pretty mediocre. Will make for a great backup PG though.

Evans: I could really see that Evans had worked on his jumpshot during the offseason. His mechanics looked much improved and his confidence in taking the shots also seemed to be better. He still runs the floor great and can still ELEVATE like we know he can... he had one great fake into a spin in which he almost put Millsap on a nasty poster... he really needs to get more playing time though. He's just so active, it's going to be hard to keep him off the floor.

Millsap: Sap is sap. Came in and did everything we've come to expect from him. Not sure if he's really trying to expand his outside game/range or not... but I think it's something to keep an eye on. I'm sure he's worked on it in the off-season, but I just can't see him looking for outside jumpers and 3's anymore than we've seen him look for it in the past. Looked great overall.

Carroll: Junkyard dog. I can't help but think of Matthews when I watch Carroll play. He just puts his head down and plays hard. Seemed to be the same guy we saw last year. Going to be spotty from outside but he's going to play hard on every possession and be a good chemistry guy.

Quinn: Quinn has a legit chance at making the roster if Watson keeps having medical issues. I thought he looked great out there... much better than I had anticipated. He ran the offense well and he looked for his shot when they gave it to him (and made them). He can attack the basket in the form of floaters and runners pretty well and he ran the offense well too. I really liked what I saw from him.

Jackson: That dude is a big boy... he played hard and really put a body on guys to make them work. Showed a good jumper and even attacked Kanter off the dribble a couple times. Not sure if there is room for him on the roster but he can get in there and put some hurt on the big guys with his size.

Trey: I don't really see it with this guy... he seems disinterested most of the time and kinda plays the same way too. Not sure why the Jazz keep bringing him back... doesn't seem to fit the Jazz culture very well.
