Burks Situation

Last year he showed some promise, and in times he seemed to be more solid than Hayward, for example.
Howard and Miles injuries left him plenty of time to play minutes, but this year, if you add Foye and Marvin, there's no room for him, since he can't play SF position.
Foye it's playing fairly well, so it's not like Burks is going to do it much better than him... but for example Carroll it's not doing something great.
What it's the solution?

We could open some more minutes at the SG spot by giving Carroll's minutes at SF to Hayward.

He's got alot of talent but like I've been saying, players get better through practice not games. He's not gonna make us better right now based on what I saw last year so he will be fine just waiting his turn.
Just be patient, he will be fine.

I don't think he's not playing because he's not ready...... Obviously there's something going on between him and Corbin...... Corbin is probably trying to send a message to Burks......
Solution would be to get rid of Corbin...... He's not Jerry Sloan and he's not Phil Jackson, he's a mediocre coach who is easily replaceable......

What makes you think there's "obviously something going on between him and Corbin?" Everything we've heard from Corbin, has been complimentary, with Ty specifically saying that Burks is working his ass off.

great that he is "awarding" him with no playing time

thats totally not true, you learning mostly through playing time, its obvious that practicing is very important but it wont replace game experience.

I disagree. You can get more comfortable doing what you learned in practice during games but you only get better at something by doing it hundreds and thousands of times and tinkering it to your liking. How many times can you do a particular skill or tinker it during a game? Not much.
I mean its like someone such as gerald green who had alot of play time but took a long time to get better versus danny green who had little playing tine but was able to improve rather quickly. We gave CJ playing time for years ... no improvement. Plus I think avoiding meaningless playing time helps Burks stay healthy in the long run since players like him who crash alot (ala manu and wade) tend to have nagging injuries later in their career so mabey being benched now adds a year or two to his prime.

^ you can't replicate real game time practicing. How many times do we hear about players hitting everything during practice yet not finding their shot during games?
You need both.

Yea but thats usually a mental issue not a technical issue which why I said "You get more comfortable doing what you learned in practice during games". What I was refering to is that until you get the technical stuff down pack then you will never do it well during a game no matter how much you practice.
Once you do get the technical stuff down pack then the next step is to get it game ready which you do during games (which is the mental stuff) and that process usually is much quicker than getting the technical stuff down pack. Getting the technical stuff down usually takes years which is why I said its no rush for him to play games imo.
Now there are some players that never get it game ready since they can never get set mentally (or take a long time to do it) but thats probley a maturity issue that can only get better with time ala gerald green.

Burks has played fewer minutes than Jimmer so far this year. He's also played fewer minutes than he did to start last year. I'm starting to suspect Ty is dicking him around.

It's too early to draw any serious conclusion, but I bet my pet that coach doesn't feel comfortable playing a young wing duo (Burks/Hayward) so he decided to start the season always with a vet (Foye, MarvinW, Carroll) on the wing lineup. That said, I think coaching staff is making a mistake. I like Tinsley, but there's no reason to play him ahead of Burks. The argument that he's the only real point guard is mute; Jazz decided to play mostly havoc kind of basketball when they commited to Mo Williams. And I'm fine with it.

But the coaching staff has no problem going with a young duo in the frontcourt, Favors/Kanter? That makes zero sense...... Carroll should not be getting 12 minutes a game...... Those minutes should be going to Burks, with Williams and Hayward rotating to the back up SF spot......

The solution is to hire a coach with a brain. Burks getting no run in the last two games where FT attempts were a problem is absolutely inexcusable. To the point where I'm stunned an NBA head coach would make that decision, unless Burks insulted Ty's mother or something.

If burks was one of the top 2 shooting guards in practice he would play.
But here is his game. Head down and drive to basket.
He cant shoot, cant defend, wont pass. So why should we give him minutes over foye or carrol

He shot 50% from the floor and 64% from 3 pointland in the pre-season. He might have improved his shooting. Then again it's hard to know when he's getting nothing but DNP-CDs. That being said, the one thing the Jazz did not do at all against New Orleans was get to the line, something Burks is very good at. Guess it was more important to have Tinsley do nothing out there.

have the same thoughts. Maybe he is not working enough to get the spot?

No min for Carroll and no min for Tinsley and give some of Foyes min as well to Burks. Jazz need to know what they have in this kid before they lose him alltogeher.

The knock on Burk's shooting is so overblown. He did alright last year, and seems to have improved. And you can't say he's being benched for bad defense when Foye looked like a mannequin out their on the perimeter.
