How are you guys like Marvin so far?

Hawks fan here, always felt he needed a change of scenery. My view in Atlanta was that he was a good, solid player who was kind of coasting a bit and was happy to just be a background guy, even though he had the talent to be much better. Is that still the case in Utah? I haven't seen him play, except on NBA Top 10 a couple of times.

He is a much better defender than expected. He has done a good job and seems to be fitting in real well. Jazz fans are very happy with his play so far though he did take a bad fall the other day and likely will miss a week or two. In regards to the coasting and not wanting to be a star, he is very much like Hayward satsified to be a good defender who scores 12 plus points per game. Hayward and Marvin simply do not have the mentality of a star like DWILL, CP3, Durant etc. When DWILL was here, you can see that he wanted to not just be an Allstar but the best PG in the NBA. Marvin and Hayward would be content to make an Allstar game or two, but there is nothing wrong with that because they do their job and contribute to the Jazz success.

I would agree with your impression. Pretty accurate imho. The difference is that Marvin fits the Jazz system better than he did with the Hawks, so that's a plus for him and the Jazz. He is a bit passive and doesn't create for himself much, but with the Jazz system it works. He does a lot of things well, got size and length, decent athleticism and a good shooting stroke. He is a low mistake player who scores in good percentages and has good efficiency. Reliable, good complimentary piece. And if he has an off game, then it is mitigated by the fact he doesn't shoot a lot. We can live with a 2-7 FG night now and then. It is so much better than what we had before.

The fact that we had Howard and CJ Miles makes Marvin look like a HOF player. Gone are the (frequent) days of boneheaded plays, questionable plays, bad and inconsistent defense and offense, and very frequent nights of 1-8, 3-11, 2-13 FG and so on. The fact that Howard couldn't find a team to sign him to start the year and got the vet minimum, while CJ got a LOWER contract than he had before while he is supposed to enter his prime and just improve his value and instead get a bunch of DNP's and can't crack the rotation in Cleveland who is dying for bench and wing contribution in general, tells you all you need to know about what the Jazz had to put up with the past few years. We like Marvin a lot, he is a significant upgrade and a good player in his own right who fits our system.

I would be very happy if we keep Marvin here for the longterm.

Marvin seems to be getting more and more comfortable. He seems to be a really good home-game player as well. He does have tendency to disappear from games sometimes, but that may be a result of him being frozen out of the O. All in all he's a great fit, Harris for Marv probably would have been a worthy trade for us even without having Mo to slide in at PG I feel. I hope his head is okay.

He's the perfect glue guy... I've loved everything about him so far. He's a Shane Battier type player who just does everything that you would want him to.

He's OK. As others said, he's not CJ Miles or Josh Howard so we like him, he does what he has to do and doesn't make bad decisions. He always leaves you with the impression that he could/should be doing more with his obvious talents but at this point in his career it's obvious that he will never have that kind of drive. He can still be a valuable glue guy and I think he's going to keep getting better as the season goes on and he gets more comfortable on the team.

Good defender. Good rebounder at the 3. Hits the trey. Just what we needed.

He's got his nights where he doesn't really have a big impact, but I like him on most nights, and has been great in a handful. Much better than Miles, literally miles ahead of him.

So far I'm like Marvin in that we both like basketball and we were both born in Washington. Beyond that we're very different.

We both have two arms and two legs. We also share an affinity for cross-eyed skinny chicks.
